Need help with own name change

I know this is a bit off-beat and different than most topics on here… but I’m at a loss. Hopefully this is an acceptable thread topic, as it isn’t necessarily a “baby name recommendation”.

I’m a 19 y/o male and I have always disliked my name… for MANY reasons, so I will be taking the steps to legally change it. [name_f]My[/name_f] current name is [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [and surname]. I am mixed on keeping my first name, as my mother is adamant that I don’t touch it… but at the very least I will be getting a new middle name and may just use that as my preferred / primary name when I meet new people.

That said… I need some major help on choosing a strong/masculine middle name that would flow well with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] as the first name. I am tired of the [name_u]Sam[/name_u]/Samantha comparisons, and want a strong and masculine middle name that I could go by. Willing to take recommendations on both first and middle names!

Some I have been considering for a middle name: [name_m]Brody[/name_m], [name_m]Garrett[/name_m], [name_u]Casey[/name_u], [name_m]Grant[/name_m].

Thank you all, beyond appreciative.

Welcome to NB! We have posts for adult name changes on this forum every now and then, I hope we can help!!

Personally, I think of [name_u]Casey[/name_u] as a more feminine name. I’ve even met females with that exact spelling, along with [name_u]Kacey[/name_u], etc. I wouldn’t think of this as much of an issue, except for your current dislike of [name_u]Sam[/name_u] - [name_f]Samantha[/name_f].

Brody, [name_m]Garrett[/name_m], and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] definitely work as masculine male names. Some other names that come to my mind, that are similar:

Beckett (however, the nickname [name_u]Beck[/name_u] feels natural, which could also be a nickname for [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f])
[name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_m]Brant[/name_m]
[name_m]Bronson[/name_m]
[name_m]Gavin[/name_m]
[name_u]Grady[/name_u]
[name_u]Grayson[/name_u]

I’m sorry your name has caused you so much trouble! Hopefully you find one you love (and that also pleases your Mum!).

Samuel [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] work really well!

What about…
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Wilder[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Wyatt[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Brandon[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Callahan[/name_u], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Fynn[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] ([name_m]Robert[/name_m] means bright and so does [name_u]Callahan[/name_u], [name_m]Fynn[/name_m] and [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]. I thought it might be a nice way to still keep the connection to your original name if you were considering that!)
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Xander[/name_m]/Xander

My favourites for you are: [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Wyatt[/name_u], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Fynn[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. Good luck!

My favourite from the names you are already considering is [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Garrett[/name_m]; [name_m]Brody[/name_m] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] would also work, but if you are looking for something clearly masculine, I would not choose [name_u]Casey[/name_u]. Although it is unisex, I think a lot of people would think it’s a girls name. Your call though!

Some other ideas:
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Blake[/name_u] ([name_u]Blake[/name_u] can be unisex but I think it is primarily a boys’ name)
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Darius[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] (same situation as [name_u]Blake[/name_u])
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Damian[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Cody[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]

If you are looking for first name suggestions, maybe either something similar in feel to [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] or that starts with s? Like:
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] (although if [name_u]Sam[/name_u]/Samantha is an issue, [name_f]Danni[/name_f]/Danielle might be too)
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] (again, [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]/Gabrielle may be problematic?)
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m]

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

I like your suggestion of [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] the best. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] is very masculine to me and I also like the flow of the name. [name_f]My[/name_f] son’s name is [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Dean[/name_u] so I am also partial to that combo.

Seconding [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Dean[/name_u]. Both are very strong, masculine names. [name_f]My[/name_f] son is [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Merritt[/name_u] but [name_u]Merritt[/name_u] is now mostly a feminine name so that doesn’t help! But [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] are :ok_hand:. Best wishes on your name journey!

I changed my name too. Congrats on making the decision! I found the process hugely liberating. First of all I wanted to say that if you really don’t like your first name, don’t let your mother control your decision to keep it. You’re legally an adult now and it’s your choice. [name_f]My[/name_f] mother wasn’t pleased that I changed my name, but she got over it.

I really like previous suggestions of [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] (nicknames [name_m]Joe[/name_m], [name_m]Jon[/name_m] or [name_m]Nate[/name_m] if used as a first), [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m].

Some other ideas for possible firsts and/or middles:

Very grateful for all of the help so far everyone. Thank you much

Grant is by far my favourite from your list. It kinda reminds me of the word granite so it feels very strong.

Other names that come to mind when I think of [name_m]Grant[/name_m] are [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and [name_m]Roger[/name_m] (though maybe if you are trying to get rid of [name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_m]Roger[/name_m] might be too close).
