So I am putting together a list of names we like. So far we have quite a decent boys list, but struggling for girls. [name_f]My[/name_f] partner is quite fussy we have agreed on [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] and [name_f]Brigid[/name_f] that’s it. I like [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], [name_f]Sorcha[/name_f], [name_f]Liadan[/name_f] and [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] but he seems indifferent about these. He hasn’t made any suggestions though. Any suggestions you may have would be great we are trying to keep names on the shorter side as we plan to give our kids a double barrel last name most likely.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Brigid[/name_f]! [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is really nice, too. I like the sound of [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], but I always revert back to my beloved [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. I also love [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] (one of my favorites!) and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] from your boys’ list. What about:
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite name site for name info (behindthename) seems to be down today… so this list isn’t as inclusive as I would’ve liked, but hopefully it provides some inspiration, at least!
[name_f]Carys[/name_f] is my favorite Welsh name, I think it’s beautiful. Scottish name for a girl, [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and for boys, [name_u]Callum[/name_u] and [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. [name_u]Irish[/name_u] name for a girl, [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] and for a boy- [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_u]Declan[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m].
Something specifically unique to Scottish and Irish are the “Mc or Mac” names if you are feeling a little more adventurous. I know a little girl named McCaire and a woman named McCauley and a boy named McCray but goes by Mac.
Some other ideas in this genre are:
McCormac
McCall
McCallister
McKay
McKellen
McKlaine/Claine
McCaine
McCoy
McShane
McCallen
McCallum
McCormick
MacGuire
McGee
McCarther
McGregor
McGill
McCart
McCartney
McCourt
McHugh (or just Hugh)
Some other ideas, a bit literal by could be fun are:
Argyle
Skye (Isle of)
Greenley
Clover
Cladaugh
Seamus
Scott
Ireland
Lochland
Tartan
Kier
Highland
I love [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f] but I am unsure if it would be ok to use for two reasons, first my partner’s sister is [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] and their relationship is not great, she goes by [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and I don’t think I’m game to have my daughters name shortened to [name_f]Evie[/name_f] even though I’m pretty sure everyone will. Secondly because we want [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] I feel that the repeat [name_f]Eve[/name_f] sound may cause confusion if you had them both as siblings. It’s a great name though maybe I can slot it in as a middle name somewhere.
