I need names for a story I’m working on. The characters are all pretty deep and have their own mysteries, so I need deep, mysterious names for them. The characters are as follows. Any ideas are appreciated.
- The narrator. A tough, rebellious 15-year-old girl. She is really strong and smart, but inside, she’s small and vulnerable and curious, and actually has the soul of a much younger child. Those she cares about are loved deeply by her. I want her to have a really unusual flower name - my main idea is Caraway, [name_f]Carry[/name_f] for short.
- Narrator’s father. He’s a farmer. He jokes with his daughter, but lets Character 3, his wife, the daughter’s stepmother, boss her around. My main idea for him is [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m], [name_m]Tad[/name_m] for short. I want him to have a short, simple name.
- Narrator’s stepmother. She resents being a farmer’s wife, so dresses in frilly clothing and wears perfume every day and generally tries to carry on acting as though she still lives in the city, but acts the part, being gruff and mean to her stepdaughter. I haven’t had any good ideas for her.
- Narrator’s uncle. He’s a jovial, caring man who acts like a father figure to his niece, and generally shapes her character more than anyone else. He’s still tough on the outside, like her, and enjoys breaking the rules. He should have a similar name to his brother, the narrator’s father.
- Narrator’s mother. She died when the narrator was tiny, so the narrator barely remembers her and sees her as mysterious and beautiful, so she should have a name to reflect this.
- Narrator’s sister. She is older than the narrator, but is absent from the story, and no-one will tell her where she is. She should have a name similar to the narrator’s and the narrator’s mother’s. My thought for her was Gollie, short for [name_f]Marigold[/name_f].
- Narrator’s love interest. A country boy - haven’t thought much more about him, so I’ll leave that option open.
- Narrator’s employer. A drug dealer who is smart but tough.
