My husband and I have been throwing around the name “[name_m]Coby[/name_m]” after seeing it on a blog.
I want your gut reactions! What do you think when you hear “[name_m]Coby[/name_m]”? Like? Dislike? What associations does it have?
[name_m]Say[/name_m] it out loud to yourself. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you immediately think of [name_m]Kobe[/name_m] [name_m]Bryant[/name_m] when you hear it? Does that matter? Or kobe beef?
I think it’s a perfectly good name, though I admit it throws me off a bit when I first try to say it, because I’ve known several men/boys named [name_u]Colby[/name_u]. It also seems like it could get mixed up with [name_u]Cody[/name_u], and there’s the spelling issue if people assume [name_m]Kobe[/name_m] like the basketball player or the type of beef. I’d rather go with [name_u]Toby[/name_u] or [name_u]Colby[/name_u] to avoid at least a few of those issues, but that’s mostly personal preference.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] is one of my favorite names and [name_m]Coby[/name_m] is an adorable nickname, but works nicely on its own too.
I really like it! It reminds me of other lively names like [name_u]Toby[/name_u] & [name_u]Darby[/name_u] that I really like. I do think it could get mixed up or misheard as [name_u]Cody[/name_u], but many names sound like other names and I don’t see that as a deal breaker.
I didn’t think of [name_m]Kobe[/name_m] until you mentioned it. I actually thought of [name_m]Zack[/name_m] and [name_u]Cody[/name_u] for some reason, but that’s probably just me. I love the name, and I say you should use it if you like it.
I like [name_m]Coby[/name_m] - it’s really interesting, and I think it would age well 'Cause it’s so unusual, it probably will get mixed up with [name_u]Cody[/name_u] sometimes, though.
It’s kind of cute to me! Although, I agree that you could encounter some problems with people confusing it for [name_u]Colby[/name_u] or [name_u]Cody[/name_u]. I wouldn’t worry about the whole [name_m]Kobe[/name_m] [name_m]Bryant[/name_m] thing, though.
[name_m]Coby[/name_m] feels somewhat unisex to me. It is NMS, my impression is that it feels dated to kids born in the 1990s. I also associate it with [name_m]Coby[/name_m] [name_m]Dick[/name_m] aka [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] Shaddix, the lead singer of the band Papa Roach.
Personally, I immediately associate it with [name_m]Kobe[/name_m] [name_m]Bryant[/name_m]. I think it works best as a nickname for [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]!
