Need some substitutions for Sawyer, please!

We don’t know what we’re having yet, but we really like the name [name]Sawyer[/name] for a boy. However, it is skyrocketing into popularity and is now unisex as well, neither of which is desirable to us. The reason I love [name]Sawyer[/name] is its connotation of a free-spirited, outdoorsy young boy (think [name]Tom[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name]). The names [name]Huck[/name] or [name]Tucker[/name] come to mind but sound a little too country for my liking, but they are along the right lines. Any suggestions of names that have a similar connotation to [name]Sawyer[/name] but are NOT popular (so that rules out other possibilities like [name]Finn[/name], [name]Hunter[/name], possibly even [name]Archer[/name], which is moving up quickly)?

What about [name]Fletcher[/name]?

[name]Scout[/name] is one I really like, but I know it has been used for girls. [name]Do[/name] you think girl or boy when you hear [name]Scout[/name]?

I really like [name]Sawyer[/name], for the same reasons you do.
Here are some ideas.

[name]Sayer[/name] came to mind right away, for obvious reasons. I like it a lot, but worry that people would often mispronounce it as [name]Sawyer[/name]. [name]Thayer[/name] and [name]Boyer[/name] are also similar in sound.

Adler (or Alder)
[name]Baker[/name] (I’m not sure how usable this actually is, but I saw a brief portion of a movie with a character called this once and it’s stuck in my brain as having an interesting, handsome quality since then. I have no idea what the movie was, or even if this was the character’s actual first name in it.)
[name]Forrest[/name] / [name]Forest[/name] / [name]Forester[/name]

Let’s see if I can think up other ideas that haven’t been mentioned yet… hmm… What about:

[name]Theron[/name] (means “hunter” and isn’t popular)
[name]Reid[/name] / [name]Reed[/name]

I don’t think [name]Tucker[/name] and [name]Huck[/name] are too popular, but maybe it’s because of the area I live in. Personally, I like them better for a boy than [name]Sawyer[/name] … and I also like [name]Thomas[/name] (for [name]Tom[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name]) <3 I’m not much help, but go with what you love

You could try [name]Henry[/name], and use [name]Huck[/name] or [name]Hal[/name] as a nn.

[name]Maxwell[/name] ([name]Max[/name])

If it helps any… I’ve never met a [name]Sawyer[/name] in real life and it sounds 100% boy to me. I think it sounds like a great choice.

Maybe [name]Grant[/name], Rowdy, [name]August[/name], or [name]Miles[/name] could be good substitutions? Good luck!

[name]Sawyer[/name] was on our short list but we eliminated it for the same reasons that you’re second-guessing it. In case we have similar tastes, here are some other names that are/were on our list:

Good luck!

Thoughts on [name]Henry[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Blake[/name], [name]Rainier[/name] (maybe a stretch), [name]Bruce[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], [name]Colm[/name]. Are you looking more for outdoorsy or adventurous?

I actually really like [name]Rainier[/name] the best of those! I would say I’m looking for a name w/ an adventurous spirit, I guess.

[name]Grant[/name] is nice, I like [name]August[/name] as well. I wonder if you can name a baby [name]August[/name] that is born in [name]January[/name]?

Yes, we do have similar taste! There are many in your list that I like but haven’t discovered yet! Thank you! [name]Roderick[/name], [name]Broderick[/name], [name]Rafferty[/name], Zealand, and [name]Perseus[/name] are all really nice.

sorry for repeats -

[name]Hawthorne[/name] nn [name]Hawk[/name]

I [name]LOVE[/name] so many of these, momof374! [name]Hawthorne[/name] and Hawke are already on my list, as is [name]Canyon[/name], but you listed some others I love as well–[name]Brandt[/name], [name]Colt[/name], [name]Daxton[/name], [name]Trace[/name], [name]Nash[/name]! Thank you!

I love [name]Wilder[/name]. Maybe it’s more suitable for a mn, but I would love to see a little [name]Wilder[/name] running around!
