Need Suggestions Please!

Well I’m 24 days from my due date and still can’t decide on a name. My husband is getting frustrated as am I because it’s all I can think about!

Our favorite name is [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. The issue I have with this is that the handful of people I have told our name pronounce it [name_m]DAL[/name_m]-ee-uh (rhymes with [name_m]Pal[/name_m]) And I think it’s so ugly! I live in the south so pretty much everyone says it this way. I would say [name_m]DOLL[/name_m]-ee-uh. I don’t want her to have to correct people her whole life :frowning:

Other names we like (but are not sold on) are [name_u]London[/name_u], [name_f]Harlow[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], and [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. Can y’all suggest similar names along those lines? Please?

I love [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and I’ve never heard it pronounced the first way (then again, I’m from the Midwest).

[name_f]Linnea[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_u]Haley[/name_u], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think naming her [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] would be an issue? Has anyone else dealt with a name with multiple pronunciations?

I honestly just think it’s southerners that pronounce it that way. But it’s so ugly. I’ve always heard it pronounced as [name_m]DOLL[/name_m]-EE-UH on TV and in movies. That’s why it’s so annoying.

I love a lot of your suggestions I just don’t know how you just pick one and stick to it. I thought the heavens would open up when I heard her perfect name but I guess that won’t happen. Haha. We thought it was [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and maybe it is but I don’t know how to deal with the pronunciation issue :frowning:

Our [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] ([name_f]Lil[/name_f]-luh) gets [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (Lie-luh) a lot but it’s usually a one time correction. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is gorgeous. Maybe you would like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], those both feel/sound similar to [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f].

I knew a [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and to my knowledge, she has never had to correct anyone (She pronounces it like [name_m]Doll[/name_m]-ee-uh). I don’t think it would be an issue. Maybe you could nickname her [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], but like I said I don’t think it will be an issue.

I love [name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilah[/name_f], hubby does not. He thinks the name correction wouldn’t be an issue, but I am a [name_f]Bettina[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Tina[/name_f] because no one seems to know how to say it correctly and I still cringe when the doctors office calls out [name_f]BENITA[/name_f]. I don’t want her to deal with that.

I know a little girl named [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], pronounced [name_m]Doll[/name_m]-ee-ah. That’s the only way I’ve heard it pronounced. My daughters name gets mispronunced and it’s annoying, but not a huge deal. Otherwise, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is cute from your list. Or how about [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] or [name_f]Delia[/name_f]? Good luck!

I do adore [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (purple is my favorite color) but the only thing we that is we don’t want her to be in a class with 4 other Violets. We thought with [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] we’d found something a little unusual but not too bizarre.

[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is a great name. I wouldn’t let a few people’s mispronunciations dissuade you from using it if you love it! I’ve seen even common names get mispronounced. [name_f]Bettina[/name_f] and [name_f]Benita[/name_f] aren’t that close and you’ve had issues!

My name is [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and people call me [name_f]Karen[/name_f] when I tell them my name lol. No name is perfect. G’luck!!

I think after the initial birth announcement, most people learn a person’s name by hearing it. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is worth a little aggravation.

I found this video on YouTube of a baby named [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], this is how everyone I know says the name. I hate it. Baby Dahlia dances with grandpa - YouTube

Any more name suggestions?

I’m beginning to really dislike the name at this point. I know the aggravation of having people say your name wrong. [name_f]Benita[/name_f], Patina etc. I might be overreacting but I just don’t want to end up hating a name I give my daughter.
