I need to settle this once and for all! My baby girl is 5 weeks old and can’t decide between [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. Her siblings are [name_u]River[/name_u] (boy), [name_u]Lake[/name_u] (boy), [name_f]Juna[/name_f], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f].
Does [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] go better with these names?
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is lovely, but quite a bit longer than [name_u]Lake[/name_u] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] in particular. [name_f]Juna[/name_f], [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] also feel short to me compared with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], so I would personally go with [name_f]Ada[/name_f] being the best fit.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] feels a little on the frilly side, whereas [name_f]Ada[/name_f] fits right in with her simple sweetness and retro feel to match [name_f]Juna[/name_f] ^^
Either is a wonderful choice, but my vote is undoubtedly for [name_f]Ada[/name_f]
When I started reading the question my immediate answer was to use [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], because [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is still a perfectly acceptable nickname for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], and would give your kid some options. But having read the list of her siblings’ names, I have to agree with previous posters that [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is a much better fit stylistically with your other kids’ names.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] seems too long, and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] seems too similar to [name_f]Juna[/name_f] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]. Any way you’d consider [name_f]Adele[/name_f] as an alternative?
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] fits in really well with her siblings’ names. Can’t go wrong with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], but [name_f]Ada[/name_f] seems to be the top contender.
I generally prefer [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] to [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but I agree with everyone else that [name_f]Ada[/name_f] fits a lot better with your other kids’ names! If you can’t decide though, you can use [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] as the full name and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] as a nickname and call her both.
I’d go with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], when yelled up the stairs, will rhyme more than you think. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] can still be a nickname. I think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is feminine but strong, not frilly, and has appealing nicknames in [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Addie[/name_f], or even Lady. Some of my kids names are long, some are short; some are more classic, some are more trendy. I think either [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] would be a lovely choice, and goes just fine with the siblings’ names.
I would go with [name_f]Adalaide[/name_f], even if you call her [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. For me [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] sound quite similar and you might appreciate the option of her full name when calling all your children at one. Both would work though.
