[name]Just[/name] thought I’d ask your opinions on other names on our list.
[name]Allegra[/name]: This is probably one of our top names…at least until I made the mistake of sharing it with my family. All I hear is how it doesn’t sound like a real name and it’s an allergy medication. We don’t have this drug in Germany but we do have plans to move back to the States eventually. [name]Do[/name] you think immediately of the medication upon hearing this name? Would it be hard for a little girl living in the States to have this name? What kind of person do you envision when you hear this name?
[name]Electra[/name]/[name]Elektra[/name]: We both also really like this name BUT have basically crossed it off the list because we fear she will ever be associated with [name]Carmen[/name] [name]Electra[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you agree?
Desirée: NN [name]Desi[/name].
[name]Liliana[/name]: DH really likes this one but I’m not super into it. I think it’s cute but I prefer [name]Lilia[/name] (which he doesn’t like).
Which names do you like best? Any other suggestions for names that are similar in taste would be much appreciated!
[name]Allegra[/name]- I think it’s a lovely name and no, I don’t immediately think of the allergy medication. Besides, if she hates her name she could always go by [name]Ally[/name]. I think of ballet actually- allegro means a rapid tempo musically
[name]Electra[/name]- I love this name, but I think of the comic hero [name]Elektra[/name], [name]Electra[/name]/[name]Oedipus[/name] complex, not [name]Carmen[/name] [name]Electra[/name] (who is basically faded away). Whether you think your [name]Electra[/name] can make the name her own is up to you.
[name]Desiree[/name]- do not like, makes me think of a stripper honestly.
I would prefer [name]Allegra[/name] from your list. It’s a great name and I’ve never heard of a drug called like this. The only association I make is [name]Allegra[/name] Versace and I don’t think it’s a bad thing.
[name]Allegra[/name] - this has a wonderful sound to it that I love. Full of energy and spirit. My first thought when I hear the name is ballet dancer [name]Allegra[/name] [name]Kent[/name] and designer [name]Allegra[/name] Hicks. I have bad allergies but never used the medication.
[name]Electra[/name] - It’s ok but not a mythological name I would choose.
Desirée - it’s sweet and soft but I would be more inclined to use it in the middle spot.
[name]Liliana[/name] - this name is more popular than you may know and I think it may be in the top 100 for 2011 (it was No# 124 in the US in 2010 - 2,503 girls). It’s still frilly and feminine.
[name]Allegra[/name]- I love it, it sounds nice and is related to [name]Allegro[/name], which in music terms means fast and with energy!
[name]Electra[/name]- Cool, I like it! Definitely different but it’s really neat! It’s also kind of a high energy name
[name]Desiree[/name]- Sweet but the only associations I can make with this name is with the people I know named [name]Desiree[/name]
[name]Liliana[/name]/ [name]Lilia[/name]- I like [name]Lilia[/name] better too, [name]Liliana[/name]'s a bit more of a mouthful in my opinion.
[name]Allegra[/name]: All I associate it with is the drug…I think it just inherently sounds like a medication. It’s not my favorite.
[name]Electra[/name]/[name]Elektra[/name]: It has a really cool sound! I would love to meet someone with this name!
[name]Desiree[/name]: I really like it.
[name]Liliana[/name]: It’s not my favorite, but I do like [name]Lilia[/name].
[name]Allegra[/name] - I love this, and I wish the allergy medication thing wasn’t such an issue… I would advise against it, though. I know there is a mama on here with a little girl named [name]Willow[/name] [name]Allegra[/name]–I think I read somewhere that after her daughter was born, people commented on the drug so much that she wished she had given her daughter a MN. If there is a chance you’ll move back to the United States, I wouldn’t do it. It’s too bad, because [name]Allegra[/name] is just stunning.
[name]Electra[/name] - I love this… it’s really cool, but it feels a bit too out-there and flamboyant to me. I also like the Italian Elletra/[name]Elettra[/name] (not sure of spelling!).
[name]Desiree[/name] - I think it has a pretty sound, but I agree with @jinxgirl on this (sorry!)–I automatically think stripper.
[name]Liliana[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] this, actually! I think [name]Liliana[/name] is just perfect. I’m biased, though, as it’s one of my personal favorites. I like its versatility and utter girliness–she could be [name]Lily[/name], [name]Lila[/name], [name]Lilia[/name], [name]Lia[/name]/[name]Lea[/name]/[name]Leah[/name], [name]Liana[/name], [name]Ana[/name], [name]Annie[/name], [name]Lil[/name], etc…
My vote goes to [name]Liliana[/name]. I also love [name]Allegra[/name] and [name]Electra[/name], but they’re a bit unusable, here, at least. :*(
[name]Allegra[/name]- I went to school with one but unfortunately all I think of now is the medication
[name]Desiree[/name]- my best friends name is [name]Desiree[/name] [name]Marie[/name]! I love it
[name]Lilliana[/name]- prefer [name]Lillian[/name] but I like this too
[name]Electra[/name]- nms sounds like [name]Carmen[/name] [name]Electra[/name] or a dancers name to me
[name]Allegra[/name] - a feminized version of my maiden name/was the original spelling of my family’s surname. It’s on my short list for middle names for a future little girl. Needless to say, I like it very much.
[name]Electra[/name]/[name]Elektra[/name] - I prefer [name]Elettra[/name], but I could see how the negative associations could sway you away from it.
[name]Desiree[/name] - I like your other choices better. It’s okay though.
[name]Liliana[/name] - Another name I’ve considered, but for me, there’s a lot of Lilys in my area.
[name]Allegra[/name]: I only associate it with the drug. If you’d be living in the U.S., I wouldn’t choose this as a name. I don’t really imagine any kind of person when I think of this name, because I just can’t imagine it as a name because of its association. I do think it has a really pretty sound, though. Elegant and unusual. [name]Just[/name] not usable as a first name, in my opinion. Hmm, names like [name]Allegra[/name]… that’s difficult, since it is quite a unique sounding name… maybe [name]Annetta[/name], [name]Alessia[/name]…
[name]Electra[/name]/[name]Elektra[/name]: I totally agree, it’s not usable because of [name]Carmen[/name] [name]Electra[/name]. However, I do love the suggestion [name]Elettra[/name]. It’s very similar but so much more elegant. I think it’s a great choice for you. There’s also Elitta (ee-leet-a) as a possibility, but I like [name]Elettra[/name] better.
Desirée: I’ve never been fond of this name. Everyone I know kind of makes fun of this name as a “lower-class” name, which is nasty, but I thought I’d throw it out there so you at least know other people’s opinions.
[name]Liliana[/name]: I love this name. It’s my favorite out of your list. It’s really a pretty name, so refined and sophisticated. I do like [name]Lilia[/name], too, but I prefer [name]Liliana[/name].
