Negatives to Lesley

I’ve really fallen for [name]Lesley[/name] this past week, so I’m coming to you ladies for your naming expertise and opinions!

What negatives do you see in being named [name]Lesley[/name]?
I prefer that spelling over [name]Leslie[/name], and I’ve found it’s the female spelling in the U.K. (U.K. berries feel free to correct me.) I view the name as unisex a la [name]Ashley[/name].

It’s not for a baby, it’s for me, a 19 year old so that might alter things.

[name]How[/name] likely do you think the whole “Lesbian” comments would be brought up? I’ll be starting university next year also.

I think [name]Leslie[/name] is fine though it’s nms, I grew up with one and she had no problems with her name, I can’t even imagine why anyone would associate the word [name]Leslie[/name] with lesbian. If you love it then I think it’s a good name to use!

There are two names that I would never use and they are [name]Kerry[/name] and [name]Lesley[/name]. I do not find any charm in them at all, I think they have a decidely unfeminine sound and look.

I like like the [name]Leslie[/name] spelling. The only thing is I feel like people will misspell it if you go with, [name]Lesley[/name]. Other than that, I think it is fine.

Not my style, but I certainly wouldnt think of lesbian. No trouble seeing it as unisex and seeing it on a 19 year old.

[name]Just[/name] wondering if you say it Less-lee or Lez-lee? Now that I think about it, I hear both at about an equal rate, but prefer the z sound.

For a young adult I doubt lesbian comments would come up. By that age people (at least people you would want to hang out with!) are more socially conscious & aware. I think it’s a nice choice for yourself & I love that it doesn’t scream ‘name change’ to me but it certainly isn’t bland either!

I say it both ways, but it feels more natural to say “lez-lee”, Less lee is more effort on my lazy tongue. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks.
Yes, that’s what I really like about it! It’s not an obvious “name-change type” of name. I think it’s something different enough from my birthname, but not too out there that my family will feel weird calling me it. It feels practically just right.

I’m not a fan because it isn’t feminine enough for my style. For what its worth, there was a [name]Leslie[/name] in my class at school and she was nicknamed [name]Leslie[/name] the Lezzie pretty quickly. Not very kind, or mature, but she people did notice the whole “lesbian” thing in her case.

I like all of your other considerations for you yourself a lot more than I like [name]Lesley[/name].

I like the spelling [name]Lesley[/name]. I wouldn’t see problems with the “lesbian” comments, especially at the college level! Pronounced with a Z sound might be an issue, if you were in middle school…

Aha, yeah? Thanks.
[name]Lesley[/name] is the favourite this week, but I only thought of the name about 6 or so days ago, so who knows where it’ll rank in the long run. [name]Aria[/name]'s the most fitting, [name]Lesley[/name]'s the most liked, and [name]Natalia[/name] is the closed to my birthname. Those are the main three I’m trying to eliminate atm.

I have no stong opinions to this name one way or another, but I must share that I have a friend (who I met in middle school, now in her early 20’s) named [name]Leslie[/name] so that is the spelling I am more comfortable with. I can’t remember any particular instances of her being “teased” in school, but she actually Is a lesbian so she probably wasn’t as phased by it as some might be! lol =]

As a [name]LESLEY[/name] myself, I have to say I hated my name growing up in the 80s, time of [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Sarah[/name]. It seemed so out there. Now with all the different names flying around and all the unisex names, [name]Lesley[/name] fits right in. I have ALWAYS preferred my spelling though. It IS the female version in UK ([name]Leslie[/name] is legit male name there). It is a place name like [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Brinley[/name], [name]Ainsley[/name] etc. it means from the grey fort. I have always heard and pronounced [name]Leslie[/name] as “Less [name]Lee[/name]” and [name]Lesley[/name] as “Lez lee”. The first pronunciation sounds like [name]Scarlett[/name] O’[name]Hara[/name] to my ears!! If it feels right, go for it! I am surprised more people have not latched onto to it to be honest!
