I have started off my new year re-reading one of my favorite books in the Bible, [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], and he’s got me in a vice grip [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]The[/name_m] meaning of “comforted by God,” his story, the gentleness of his name…. I can’t stop thinking about him!
[name_f][/name_f]
He does feel a little overwhelmingly Biblical, though, so I’m leaning more towards the idea of him as a middle; unless I can come up with a more quirky/fun nickname? [name_f][/name_f] I do like [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] nn Nemo… but that almost seems too[name_f][/name_f] fun. [name_f][/name_f] I’m open to something a bit stretchy—would love to know what fun and exciting nicknames you’d give a [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], or alternately what first names you’d like for him? [name_f][/name_f] I thought about [name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] or [name_f]Eden[/name_f] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], but idk if either feels quite right.
I knew a guy named [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nemo[/name_m], in high school. He was in a law enforcement class. [name_m]No[/name_m] one really thought anything of it. I think it’s a fine name, with a great meaning, and a cute nickname that will serve him well.
We know a [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] nicknamed [name_m]Neo[/name_m]. It seems really wearable. [name_f]My[/name_f] father-in-law also dreamed of naming one of his sons [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], called “Nehi” (“knee-high”). [name_f][/name_f] His wife rejected it. Of course, it’s kind of a joke, but there’s something endearing about it.
[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] is fantastic![name_f][/name_f] however I also looove [name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]!
I’ve known one (?) [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], and he wore it well. However, I am a firm believer that almost all names grow with their bearers, so it’s also possible that I was a bit biased. Emi/Emmi would be a cute nickname. As a middle, something shorter and more grounded/secular could work well! Perhaps:
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Eden[/name_f] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] such a handsome name
[name_f][/name_f]
I think [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] is a handsome name and [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] makes an adorable nickname. When I took [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] (my daughter) to a baby music class there was another baby there who was named [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]. He was the only [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] I’ve ever encountered but liked the name immediately. [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] mum didn’t give him a nickname she said that was part of the appeal was that there wasn’t a natural nickname so unlikely to be shortened. Still I think [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] is cute and [name_m]Neo[/name_m] also works as a nickname to grow into.
[name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] is cool!
[name_f][/name_f]
For nicknames:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Nai[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Niah[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ned[/name_m] (with a D- middle name, like [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], just as an example) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nate[/name_m] (with a T middle name, like [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] Tavish)
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]! I had a slightly strange experience with him, as we’ve had him on lists for a couple of pregnancies (my husband expressed that he likes -iah names, so we went down that road for awhile.) Then I met a young adult [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], and it seemed…overwhelmingly Biblical [name_f][/name_f] Maybe especially since his siblings are all Biblical too? [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Micah[/name_m] etc. I think I would like [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] better in a sibling set where the others were not all Bible names.
[name_f][/name_f]
Friends of ours have a little grandson [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] “Neo.” We talked about [name_m]Neo[/name_m] and [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] as nicknames.
I think [name_f]Nim[/name_f] would be a really cute nickname for [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f] I like the idea of [name_f]Miah[/name_f] too, but realistically I think it will always be mistaken for [name_f]Maya[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
First name ideas… [name_f][/name_f][name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ezer[/name_f] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] (not sure if you’d want another distinctly Biblical name, though, if you’re worried [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] is too Biblical) [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Avery[/name_f] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Max[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] (maybe too alliterative but I do love the sound!) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Arrow[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eero[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] is dashing! I like the repeating ‘m’ sound and how the enclosed feeling of [name_m]Bram[/name_m] contrasts with the fluid, open sound of [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]. That’s a keeper!
[name_f][/name_f]
I could see myself using [name_f]Miah[/name_f] as a nickname, it feels quite natural. What about…
i’m also loving nehemiah right now! the book of nehemiah is also a favourite of mine, and i also love the meaning [name_f][/name_f] my favourite nickname for him is nim, and i love the suggestions you’ve gotten of nem and mies! [name_f][/name_f]bram nehemiah is a lovely combo, i love short and solid bram with the longer nehemiah! [name_f][/name_f]i’ll suggest: [name_f][/name_f]otto nehemiah [name_f][/name_f]conrad nehemiah [name_f][/name_f]jack nehemiah [name_f][/name_f]ari nehemiah [name_f][/name_f]desmond nehemiah [name_f][/name_f]clark nehemiah [name_f][/name_f]rudy nehemiah [name_f][/name_f]rafe nehemiah
ooh, these are pretty, [name_m]Theo[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] I also like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] though I usually try and avoid back to back Bible names (somehow it feels like a cop-out? [name_f][/name_f] )
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]So[/name_f] cool that you’ve met a [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] It feels so gentle and I love the Biblical namesake. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]. This is so handsome! [name_f][/name_f] I was just thinking about [name_m]Breccan[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] today, nn [name_m]Beck[/name_m], so this feels so similar but even more tailored! [name_f][/name_f] I also like [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] a lot.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Oh[/name_m] no! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]. I am not sure about him as a first still but I do love [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] in theory! [name_f][/name_f] But that in itself I’m not 100% sold on… little fish, sweet. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Captain[/name_m] [name_m]Nemo[/name_m]? [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Not[/name_m] nearly so sweet and I was so excited to read 20,000 Leagues Under the [name_f]Sea[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] and was so gutted that I didn’t love it as much as I’d hoped! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]So[/name_f] idk that [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] means as much to me as I had once hoped it’d be. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] All that makes me feel like [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] as a middle feels safer, but I do love [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] in theory
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
Yeah, I know a [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] who got [name_m]Miah[/name_m] from his mom a lot… it just never clicked for me. [name_f][/name_f] Sadly. [name_f][/name_f] I do love [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] in theory but I saw it first from @daisymeadows[name_f][/name_f] so it doesn’t really feel like mine (plus I am not sure I can see me using [name_m]Jack[/name_m] anymore up front? [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] family loves [name_m]John[/name_m] way too much smh). [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Avery[/name_f] and [name_m]Eero[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] are intriguing though!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Oh[/name_m], I saw that Hemmy was a quite common Hebrew nn for [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] It’s actually quite cute but I love [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] for a girl and it just seems a little too close.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Nim[/name_f] is fun! [name_f][/name_f] I think I like [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] a little more, even with my reservations lol, but he feels perfect for you! [name_f][/name_f] I’ve been thinking about [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] a lot lately… though I can’t tell how I feel about [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]? [name_f][/name_f] I think I like him!
Aww thanks girl! [name_f][/name_f] He’s one of my favorite options with [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] as a middle, but I like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] better in other combos, and I don’t think I can see me with a [name_m]Jack[/name_m] anymore. [name_f][/name_f] I’m so fond of him, but there’s so many other names I’d want to use more! [name_f][/name_f] Plus, SO many John’s and Johnny’s in my family… [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a little different but I’m more than happy to keep him as a middle haha
