Nemo

Hello all! The website The [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Name [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] lists [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. I am very interested to hear if any of you think this is a usable nickname and if the derivation makes sense? [name_m]Ned[/name_m] is my favorite nickname for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] at the moment, but is [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] a realistic possibility?

Honestly I never would have thought of [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] from [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. Then again there’s no rule that says a nickname has to be obvious, or even really related to the given name at all. Thus calling your children “honey, pumpkin,” etc. I think of nicknames as being a short name that you call someone instead of a shortened version of a name.

I also wouldn’t have related [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. I wouldn’t use it myself because of the obvious Disney connection.

[name_f]My[/name_f] nephew was friends with an [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] that went by [name_m]Nemo[/name_m]. I know, it seems odd but it really worked for him. I believe his parents intended him to be called [name_u]Nico[/name_u] (knee-co) but his little sister said it like [name_m]Nemo[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] would work wonderfully with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].

The best I can guess is someone might have gotten ‘Ne’ from [name_m]Ned[/name_m] and ‘mo’ [name_m]Ed[/name_m]mond then mashed it together. I kind of like it.
