Nero?

thoughts on [name]Nero[/name] for a boy?

It’s one of my guilty pleasures, I don’t think it would work for a child at all. Could be a possible middle name.

Yikes. Not for me, thanks. Very much wicked [name]Roman[/name] emperor [name]IMO[/name]. I also find the first syllable “neeeer” very nasally and sneeeering.

I don’t like the association as much as I do the name itself. Have you considered [name]Hero[/name]?

[name]Nero[/name] is one of the most notorious names in all history. It is synonymous with a perverse, infamous tyrant. So I’m gonna say no.

I agree. [name]Nero[/name] started the great fire of [name]Rome[/name]! No good. It is interesting that there have been a couple of posts lately about names with negative associations… first [name]Antigone[/name], now [name]Nero[/name]. It really asks the question whether people can look past the historic significance of a name. [name]Cain[/name] has gained some popularity in recent years and that name definitely does not have a sterling reputation. Also, while this is by no means popular and just horrible in my opinion, I saw a reality tv show where a couple had a child named Sin.

[name]Nero[/name] is almost as bad as [name]Adolf[/name]. He not only danced while [name]Rome[/name] burned, but he burned Christians at the stake and executed his own mother. It’s hard to get past a reputation like that.

What about another name with an -o ending like [name]Cato[/name], [name]Viggo[/name], [name]Theo[/name], [name]Nico[/name]

I’m gonna have to say no because of the connection and also because the sound just doesn’t appeal to me.

Not a fan onf the name and especially not a fan of the association.

[name]Hero[/name] is lovely (though admitedly a Shakespearean girl’s name.) [name]Theo[/name] is really cool and has a similar sound.

Yeah not only did [name]Nero[/name] kill his mother and countless others, but also his wife while she was pregnant. He was not a cool guy.

Nope. I first think of the [name]Roman[/name] emperor, than the villain in the latest [name]Star[/name] Trek movie. So no.

While [name]Hero[/name] might be a girl’s name, the nearly identical sounding [name]Hiro[/name] is a Japanese unisex name that seems like it could be imported, and it is easier to live up to.

[name]Don[/name]'t. [name]Just[/name]… don’t.

Great sound, but I think that the association makes it unusable, unfortunately.
