I’m crushing hard on [name_f]Neve[/name_f]. And my husband actually likes it, unlike all my other names for this bump! What are your thoughts? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it if you came across it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think all the Nevaehs out there will be called [name_f]Neve[/name_f] and make it popular?
Thanks in advance!! Getting excited we might have a girl’s name on the horizon!
I would say it like “[name_f]Eve[/name_f]” within an “N”. Not sure if that’s correct, but it’s how it looks to me. I think it’s cute but if I am pronouncing it correctly, I like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] better. If that’s not the way it’s pronounced, you might have trouble with people frequently saying it wrong.
As correct as it is, [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is just not possible in some areas. It would always be mispronounced and misspelled. Anglicization is sometimes necessary. That being said, I love [name_f]Neve[/name_f] and knew a [name_f]Neva[/name_f].
I pronounce it like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] with an N in front. The same as I would pronounce [name_f]Niamh[/name_f].
[name_f]Neve[/name_f] is not my style, but I like it. I have a little cousin [name_f]Neve[/name_f] and she is very sweet.
I have actually never met a [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] and not sure what nicknames they are generally given, but I wouldn’t instinctively call a [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Neve[/name_f]’.
I would say “neev” like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] with an N in front of it. I like it. I’ve never met a [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] called [name_f]Neve[/name_f], and I’ve never met anyone named [name_f]Neve[/name_f], so I don’t think it’s common.
Dang. I was pronouncing it like Nehv, but it seems intuitively like people would pronounce it like Neeve (or [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]). Which I like, too, but prefer Nehv. And I feel like [name_u]Nev[/name_u] looks unfinished.
Thoughts? Should I just not care, and know she’ll be correcting the first time she meets somebody? I just find it so beautiful.
I really think it would be a troublesome name as far as pronunciation goes. If you totally just love the sound of the name, maybe use [name_u]Nev[/name_u] as a nickname for something else? Is [name_f]Nell[/name_f] too far off for you?
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] isn’t too far off, and I like it, but it doesn’t quite have the same appeal to me. Any ideas what [name_u]Nev[/name_u] could be a nickname for?
Hmmm… could you use [name_u]Nev[/name_u] in the middle and call her that as a nn? Or you could use…
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] / [name_f]Genevia[/name_f] / Geneve
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_u]Nevada[/name_u]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Neviah[/name_f] - a legitimate Hebrew name, but I guess it would get ‘’[name_f]Neveah[/name_f]?‘’ a lot. I actually think [name_f]Neveah[/name_f] is a very pretty sounding name but yes, incredibly tacky.
[name_f]Nevara[/name_f] - means ‘snow’ in Spanish.
I’m not sure how acceptable accents are where you’re from, but you could spell it Nève to make in sound like [name_u]Nev[/name_u]. Because I agree that [name_f]Neve[/name_f] would be “Neev”.
I would just go with [name_u]Nev[/name_u] if you don’t want to go with a formal or long name. Although, I think [name_u]Nev[/name_u] is a super unexpected nickname for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], and I love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] But at the end of the day it’s your little girl and you can name her whatever makes you smile
