Neve

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! I’m curious about people’s general feelings on the name [name_f]Neve[/name_f], and/or answers to the following:

-how would you pronounce it?
-do you picture any particular personality when you imagine someone named [name_f]Neve[/name_f]?
-would you prefer it on its own or as a nickname for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]?

Thank you!

1)I pronounce it neev

2)Don’t picture any personality in particular

3)Definitely prefer on its own!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Neve[/name_f], btw :sparkles:

I pronounce it as an anglicisation of [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] (neev), can imagine any type of personality suiting [name_f]Neve[/name_f], and prefer it on its own! [name_f]Neve[/name_f] is gorgeous :yellow_heart:

I pronounce it like [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] (neev). I love it! I think it’s a versatile name and love it on its own.

i’d pronounce it neev, i personally like it way better than niamh! something about the look of niamh that is not as appealing to me

i immediately associated the name with nieve, which is spanish for snow, so i get that imagery from the name!

and i’d prefer it on its own, not a fan of genevieve personally

  1. [name_f]My[/name_f] instinct is ‘nehv’ as that’s how the [name_f]Neve[/name_f] I know pronounces it. However, I do think most people would probably say ‘neev’ like [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]

  2. I think it could fit any personality!

  3. I prefer it on its own!

i like neve, it’s pretty and is very distinctive for being such a little name! i do, however, prefer the spelling niamh. :snowflake:

1- i pronounce it like neev
2- i imagine a neve being quite adventurous!
3- i prefer neve on its own, though i do love genevieve, i just prefer the nickname “evie”.

I pronounce it as Neev, and I love it on its own! However I love Genevieve as well, so both are great options in my eyes :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Snow comes to mind, so I picture an innocent angel-like girl with a bright heart and a shy smile. I also believe it’s a name that can suit many personalities though!

The actress Neve Campbell also pops to mind

“Neev”

I feel like it’s a pretty versatile name, but I do get a softer, quieter vibe from it — it doesn’t feel super bubbly and outgoing to me.

I think it’s better on its own.

1.) I pronounce it as ‘neev’.
2.) I imagine [name_f]Neve[/name_f] as a quiet, dreamy, head-in-the-clouds sort of girl. Think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] Lovegood.
3.) It works well both ways! However, if I only wanted to call my daughter [name_f]Neve[/name_f], I would name her [name_f]Neve[/name_f].

I pronounce both E’s in the same way, like in “ Emma”. So nEvE with the Es like in [name_f]Emma[/name_f]! It’s the Italian pronunciation of the name and it’s also the word for snow.

“Neev”

No particular personality but the last [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] I met was loud and bubbly.

I prefer it as a name in its own right

I would pronounce it “neev” and I prefer the spelling [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]! I don’t have a specific personality in mind. I like [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] on it’s own.

I pronounce it ‘nehv’ like [name_f]Neve[/name_f] [name_u]Campbell[/name_u] - the name makes me think of her too, so I think of someone gorgeous and strong.

Not really

I would prefer it on its own

I love [name_f]Neve[/name_f]! It was high on my list for our third daughter. I like it pronounced like the first syllable in never or rhyme with ever. We didn’t ultimately go with it because I was worried about confusion with it more commonly being pronounced with a long e - Neeve. I like that way too, it’s just not my preferred pronunciation.

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] was on our list for all three of our girls. I thought about it with [name_f]Neve[/name_f] too and I think it’s a great way to get that name. I just didn’t want anyone to use Gen/Genny instead, which is why we didn’t go with it any time.
