I’m sorry if this has been discussed before (I did a forum search and couldn’t find anything), but what’s the name [name]Nevaeh[/name] all about?
[name]How[/name] do you pronounce it? [name]Nev[/name]-eye? [name]Nev[/name]-ehh? [name]Nev[/name]-aye?
Why can’t people just use the name [name]Heaven[/name] instead? What is the significance of spelling [name]Heaven[/name] backwards? To me it almost seems a little blasphemous to spell [name]Heaven[/name] backwards… like displaying a country’s flag upside-down.
Personally I don’t like the name and I have no idea how it is “supposed” be pronounced, but I would say [name]Nev[/name]-aye.
I think [name]Heaven[/name] would be kind of bad name for a kid… It could lead to teasing “My dog died, oh, don’t worry, [name]Heaven[/name] has it!” It’s a name I think I would defiantly avoid… It’s also a religious word/place and that can have it’s own issues…
I have not met any Nevaehs, but I think it is pronounced nuh-VAY-ah. It got started when someone (a singer, I think) named his daughter this and announced that it was heaven spelled backwards. I am surprised it’s gotten as popular as it has. For some reason, it is especially loved in New Mexico, where in 2010 it was in the top 5 names.
[name]Heaven[/name] and [name]Heavenly[/name] (and [name]Angel[/name]) have been used as first names for girls, but perhaps people feel they are a little too direct.
Ugh, I hate this name. To me, it is very trashy. I recently saw a little girl at the park with this name. Her mom (who was smoking at the playground around lots of kids if that gives you any insight) pronounced it nev-A-hah.
I don’t like this at all. I think if you want to have [name]Heaven[/name] in your child’s name give it to them as a middle. Or name her [name]Heaven[/name] (though I would not advise this)! [name]Neveah[/name] is pronounced [name]Nev[/name]-ay-uh. I apologize to anybody who knows somebody with the name [name]Neveah[/name], but I can’t stand this name. It’s just like [name]Renesmee[/name] to me. WHY???
lol, I don’t see the appeal either. I’ve never met a [name]Nevaeh[/name] in person, so I always figured it was nuh-VAY, until I saw the pronunciations people gave online, nuh-VAY-ah. I don’t understand where that pronunciation comes from, either, lol.
What I really don’t understand is [name]NevEAh[/name]… I can sort of see the appeal of [name]NevAEh[/name], and all, it’s heaven spelled backwards, that’s kind of cute, whatever, but [name]Neveah[/name] isn’t even “heaven” spelled backwards–it’s HAEVEN spelled backwards, and that’s nothing! lol.
To me as a non-American it is kind of interesting. Why is it, that [name]Nevaeh[/name] is considered trashy and a name like [name]Angel[/name] isn’t? Or is it? Is [name]Chastity[/name]? [name]Prudence[/name]? [name]Faith[/name]? To me these are all weird words to name a child, but I just can’t see a difference. Can someone explain it?
I have really, really mixed feelings about the name. I would never use it, but I do see how the name is visually and aurally appealing. But I can’t get my head around the “heaven spelled backwards” bit. To me, ‘heaven’ backwards is ‘hell’, and maybe it’s just me, but that doesn’t sound like something I’d want to name a child (no matter how much he drives me crazy).
lol this is true. My main dislike for it is that it has an awkward prn (that no one can really decide on) and it reminds me of Nivea lotion because that’s how I assumed it was said.
Definately! Plus, I can’t stand names with unnecessary Hs at the end, probably why I hate [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Norah[/name] (but I like [name]Nora[/name]), [name]Sarah[/name] (but I like [name]Sara[/name]), [name]Alannah[/name], [name]Deborah[/name], and [name]Lilah[/name] (but I like [name]Lila[/name]). I like [name]Neva[/name], [name]Neve[/name], and [name]Niamh[/name] ok, but I can’t stand [name]Nevaeh[/name].
I dislike it because I just feel like if you want your kid named [name]Heaven[/name] just do it already! What’s the point in spelling it backwards? I’m [name]Angel[/name]. My mom named me [name]Angel[/name] not Legna.
I’ve met one [name]Nevaeh[/name] (neh-vay-uh) [name]IRL[/name] and she was a terrible, awful child.
Gah - this name is a disgrace to all names. Yuck. I don’t like it at all because it strikes me as one of those sort of virtue names chosen by people with none whatsoever. Kind of like naming your kid Holy or something, just slightly more subtle. [name]Heaven[/name], [name]Nevaeh[/name], [name]Serenity[/name] (at least, the butchered spellings), [name]Angel[/name] and names like that just SCREAM Toddlers & Tiaras to me. (Sorry dantea. ;))
I’ve never met a [name]Nevaeh[/name] (thank god) but I always say neh-VAY-uh in my head. I think people avoid [name]Heaven[/name] because they see it as a “stripper name” or something like that and feel that by spelling it backwards it somehow makes it okay, while it just makes it worse [name]IMO[/name].
I loved it when I first heard it 8 years ago. [name]One[/name] year later I HATED it! It is horrible and the fact that every person that names their child this seems to be (sorry) trashy. [name]Don[/name]'t know how this caught on so much
Actually, the name is [name]Nevaeh[/name]… you have it spelled [name]Neveah[/name], which spelled backwards is Haeven! You’re not alone though, over 200 girls had the name spelled that way in 2010. I can just imagine how they explain their name: “My name is [name]Heaven[/name] spelled backward, incorrectly.” :>
Blame MTV’s “Cribs”. There was an episode featuring a member of the band POD back in 2000 and he mentioned that he had named his daughter [name]Nevaeh[/name] because it was [name]Heaven[/name] spelled backwards (which to me, would equal Hell, but whatever). Episode aired and bam, the name flew up the charts and took on a life of its own.
There’s even a wikipedia entry about it, which I find both equally amusing and sad: Nevaeh - Wikipedia
