New Name Crush. Too unsubstantial?

Mae.
I’m not sure why I’m in love with it so much lately.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] was on our short list (IS on our short list), and on a whim I flipped it. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]? Is it too short? Too [name_u]Southern[/name_u]? We are from Wisconsin, I’m not sure how it would be received here.
Also, our surname is [name_m]Tucker[/name_m].
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_m]Tucker[/name_m].
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] is the mother from “[name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting.” Too close?

Mae Geneveive is absolutely beautiful!

It’s very sweet, and doesn’t feel particularly southern to me. I actually prefer [name_f]Mae[/name_f] as a first name as opposed to a middle; I see it a lot in the middle, but it’s cute and fun in the first spot. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is very cute and completely usable.

I’m aware of [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting, but it wasn’t an immediate connection, and I think you’ll be alright.

I completely agree with eveything rosepip said! Except I never heard of [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting before. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is sweet and I don’t find it unsubstantial.

I love [name_f]Mae[/name_f]! It’s one of those names that are short and sweet but also strong. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is a lovely combo and not too [name_u]Southern[/name_u]. I don’t know [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting

Hey! I’ve lived mostly in the south but a few years in Wisconsin, and I don’t think [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/May is too southern. You might be thinking of double names like [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f] which does sound very country/rural to me. On its own [name_f]Mae[/name_f] sounds kind of chic [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] Age in my opinion. I do prefer [name_f]May[/name_f] over [name_f]Mae[/name_f] since it feels more substantial to me, but actually it might be more country looking lol. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is sort of sophisticated in a fun way! I think [name_f]Mae[/name_f] would be totally fine in Wisconsin. I found it to be a really down to earth and friendly place. Sorry I don’t know about [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting though I do recognize the title.

I do know [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] everlasting (actually I’ve been thinking about this book/movie a lot lately due to my own naming dilemma) and I still didn’t make the connection. So I think you’ll be fine there.

I also don’t feel [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is insubstantial. It does have a short sweet sound, but as a first I actually think it’s quite a strong name. [name_f]My[/name_f] first association with the name is [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u] and then a book series call [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Bird[/name_u] and the everafter. Both of whichever I would describe as a strong/quirky personality

I’d rather be named [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (or [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Geneva[/name_f], Glenavon, [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f], or [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]) [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (or [name_f]May[/name_f]) than the other way around.

But then I am partial to long names with many nn options.

Not at all! [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is super sweet! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.

I think only some people will even pick up on this, so I’d say it’s fine.

I love [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/May, unfortunately it doesn’t go with my last name. It’s only southernish if you called her [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] or something like that. Not that its a bad thing, I like the southern naming style.

Both are great options!

Mae [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is lovely! I like it both ways. From WI too

I think it’s so sweet. The last time I read [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting was in middle school so I think you are safe there

Mae is very sweet and I don’t think of [name_f]Mae[/name_f] on it’s own as particularly [name_u]Southern[/name_u], moreover when combined with certain other names. I also think the the [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting reference is really obscure and not something people are going to think of when they see/hear [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_m]Tucker[/name_m]. And honestly it really does pair so nicely with your surname.

I think that while short and sweet it packs a little punch and isn’t insubstantial at all.
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is absolutely lovely.

I love the way [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] sounds so much! But I really love [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_m]Tucker[/name_m]. I don’t think the [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting thing will matter, unless you run across a stan.
They both are beautiful, I personally prefer a longer name up front with the shorter 2nd, so I’m a little bias

With that being said, I know a lot of people naming their kids [first name] [middle name] & calling them by their middle name because they like the way the name flows best.

Both are beautiful and I love this name combo. It always helps me to say it out loud like they’re: 1) in trouble 2) endearingly 3) walking across the graduation stage 4) an author/public figure
