New Name Data! What do you think?

Proud to see [name_f]Luna[/name_f] rising! Surprised to see [name_u]Brody[/name_u] and [name_u]Mason[/name_u] drop so far, as they still seem semi-popular… [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] ranked surprisingly higher than I thought… very surprised [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] didn’t make it to the top 1000! [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is lower than I thought.

i’m unsurprised to see that banks is rising - and a lot of vintage names like florence, estella, cleo, murphy etc.

i am surprised to see jream at #777 for girls :flushed:

i feel like the nickname georgie is quite on-trend, but maybe us parents are a bit hesitant to put it on the birth certificate and georgia feels too place-namey so they’ve perhaps turned to georgina? this doesn’t seem to explain 432 places to me though

mason in particular surprised me!

This continually shocks me, it’s such a ‘normal’ name in the U.K.!

I feel like such a trendsetter with my son’s name being on the list of rising vintage revivals, haha. This is such a fun way to break down the stats, I love seeing fastest rising names for different themes! The nature names are especially intriguing.

Is Jream supposed to be “dream”? Or is it some kind of celebrity or pop culture reference? I am so confused by it

Yeah, in a lot of American accents it’s pronounced the same so it’s a creative spelling of Dream. Jrue pronounced like Drew is another one that I’ve seen (and looking it up now it apparently also made the list for 2022!) Jrue I think is because of the basketball player, maybe that also helped inspire Jream? I thought there might have been a celebrity baby with the name too but I’m not finding anything online.

Yeesh, some of these are particularly bad, glad they were only given to five

Maybe they were saying [name_m]Money[/name_m] like [name_f]Monet[/name_f]? I can’t imagine an American Barnaby….

I am disheartened and relieved in equal measures. A lot of my favorite names have risen dramatically, but many are still failing to chart, so, things could definitely be worse, lol.

I’m always most excited for the playground analysis to help put it all in perspective.

As an aside, I’m surprised to see that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] dropped from 5536 to 5255 and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] dropped from 460 to 399.

I’m noticing an interesting trend among girl names. It seems that a lot of “recently dated” names have had jumps in number of babies. These are all names that I would have expected to continue seeing a decline for. For example,

These are just some random names I tossed around and looked up, and I haven’t dug into the boys names too much. Of course, there are names in this category that dropped as well (as expected) but it seems that a higher than usual percentage actually saw an increase (even slight) in usage.
