[name]Just[/name] found [name]Galatea[/name] “[name]Gal[/name]-ah-tay-ah” on the NB [name]Celestial[/name] Name List and I think it’s awesome. I like the nn [name]Gala[/name] or [name]Tea[/name] and it’s linked to a Grecian myth so it’s that much better. It’s a whole lotta name without being overly pretentious. Unfortunately my husband would never go for it (he turns his nose up at [name]Octavia[/name], [name]Augusta[/name], and [name]Aurelia[/name]) and we know a couple with a toddler named [name]Gala[/name] which I adore…
Thoughts? [name]Love[/name] it? Hate it?
I’m personally against any name that you have to explain the pronunciation. So I’m all for [name]Octavia[/name], [name]Augusta[/name] or [name]Aurelia[/name]. But not [name]Galatea[/name]. I think that if your child will have their name mispronounced their entire life, it’s just not worth it.
I actually really like [name]Galatea[/name]! It’s a really appealing sound. I only heard of it because of the myth, so it’s very closely tied to that for me. I’m not sure whether that’s a good thing, though- compared to all the strong, independent women throughout history you could name a child after, I’m not sure the man-made and idealized [name]Galatea[/name] is the best role model. So for me, it isn’t the greatest association, but I still like the name.
