I say [name]Doll[/name]-(ee)-yuh, with the ‘ee’ sound barely pronounced. I’ve heard many different ways of saying it though. I don’t really like [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Dahlia[/name] together, it’s a bit too themey for me and I think of the [name]Black[/name] [name]Dahlia[/name].
I’d say we’d rhyme ‘carl’ and ‘dahl’. Here ‘doll’ would rhyme with ‘polly’ and ‘molly’. It has the short ‘o’ sound that’s in words like ‘cot’ and ‘lot’.

I think [name]Dahlia[/name] is a great name and is an awesome match with [name]Violet[/name]! I have always pronouced it Dah-Li-[name]Ah[/name], I didn’t even know that it was pronouced differently.

I pronounce both the name and the flower Dahl-ya.
The plant was named after a guy whose last name was Dahl. And -ia used to be commonly used to say -ya, as seen in names like [name]Katia[/name] and [name]Sonia[/name], which were transliterated from Russian and are now often transliterated as [name]Katya[/name] and [name]Sonya[/name], etc.
However, dah-lee-ah and day-lee-ah seem to be common vernacular for the flowers in Britian and Commonwealths so I wouldn’t say they’re outright incorrect. But I won’t cede that dahl-ya is wrong.
I’ve actually mused on [name]Dolly[/name] as a nickname for [name]Dahlia[/name] myself.

([name]Beyonce[/name] and [name]Jay[/name]-zee’s daughter) That name irritates me. Anyway, I am sorry, but I don’t care for the subtle theme. It’s not that subtle. However, I think [name]Dahlia[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] are lovely names…just not as a sibset. If you like [name]Dolly[/name], go with that. [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Dolly[/name] sounds really cute!
Aussie here. It must be an accent thing, because I concur with the Brits - DAHL-ya. (Although I have heard [name]DALE[/name]-ya, that doesn’t seem quite right since it’s derived from the surname Dahl, which is pronounced with a long ‘ah’ sound.) I’ve never heard [name]DOLL[/name]-ya.
Anyway, no big deal if it doesn’t bother you. I think [name]Dahlia[/name] is gorgeous, and the flowery theme with [name]Violet[/name] wouldn’t put me off either.

It doesn’t bother me one bit that they are both flowers, just wouldn’t want most people to think it’s cheesy. Honestly though I think it’s ok. In name world, I might tend to over analyze a bit, haha. So I think it should be fine

I think where you live could have a lot to do with how people will assume it’s pronounced. If you tell people the way you’d prefer it pronounced, it shouldn’t be an issue. I think the character on Suburgatory spells it [name]Dalia[/name], which indicates their pronunciation of it more so than [name]Dahlia[/name] does.
Oh you’re right it is very pretty.(I think it’s breathtaking) I love the name [name]Dahlia[/name], I say it [name]Doll[/name]-ee-uh. Wonderful choice in my opinion.
