I’ve been noticing recently that the names in kids shows and books seem to be reflecting the common names of toddlers and babies who would be watching the show or reading the book. It’s interesting to see how characters in media change over time with the trends. Does anyone have any examples of cool modern names they’ve heard/seen in kids media recently?
Some I’ve seen are:
[name_u]Bodhi[/name_u], [name_u]Wyatt[/name_u], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], and [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] in the Disney [name_m]Jr[/name_m] show T.O.T.S
[name_u]Ryder[/name_u] in the [name_u]Nick[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m] show [name_f]Paw[/name_f] Patrol
[name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_u]Alma[/name_u], [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_u]Henry[/name_u], and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] in the Disney [name_m]Jr[/name_m] show [name_m]Doc[/name_m] McStuffins
[name_u]Atlas[/name_u] and [name_u]Zen[/name_u] in a book
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] from Bubble Guppies comes to mind.
Abney and [name_u]Teal[/name_u] are beautifully if unusually named (The Adventures of Abney and Teal).
I like the classic [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] from [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] [name_u]Tiger[/name_u]
🧚🏼♀️ Wishenpoof characters: [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_m]Ben[/name_m]
I personally would choose a name from [name_f]Sesame[/name_f] [name_f]Street[/name_f]: [name_u]Bert[/name_u], [name_m]Ernie[/name_m], [name_u]Murray[/name_u], or [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]!
I forgot [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] [name_u]Tiger[/name_u]! There’s also the names [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f], and [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] from that show
I also just thought of Vidia, [name_f]Fawn[/name_f], [name_f]Iridessa[/name_f], [name_f]Zarina[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f] from the Disney Fairies movies
I’ve noticed this in Finnish kids’ media - currently popular names like [name_f]Helmi[/name_f], [name_u]Leo[/name_u], and [name_m]Otso[/name_m] seem to be popping up much more frequently!
Come to think of it, I remember there was an 80s children’s book where the main character had the same name as me. [name_f]My[/name_f] mum tells me that when she read it to me (I would have been around 1 at this point), every time she said the character’s name, I would turn around to look at her in confusion - like “why are you calling me all of a sudden, I’m right here??”
I was just watching Super Monsters with my nephew and had to come back to this thread because I loved the kids names in the show. They are each half-monster so their names are all related to the monster they are, but I love a lot of the first names even despite the punnyness.
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] [name_m]Graves[/name_m] (mummy)
Drac Shadows (vampire)
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] Mash (frankenstein)
[name_f]Katya[/name_f] Spelling (witch)
Lobo Howler (werewolf)
[name_u]Zoe[/name_u] [name_u]Walker[/name_u] (zombie)
[name_m]Spike[/name_m] Gong (dragon)
[name_u]Vida[/name_u] Calvera (skeleton/sugar skull)
