(New) Teaser Game!

She was a disaster. Her skin was ashy, her hair tangled, her clothes ripped and muddy. But she was far too tired to care.

Next: tired

“It’s still early. I’m not at all tired.”

Next word: early

“Early in the morning, [name_f]Lima[/name_f] [name_f]Jayde[/name_f] used to babysit the neighbor’s two-year-old child, [name_m]Kitt[/name_m]. She would help potty train him, & well as teach him his letters & new words.”

[name_m]Callon[/name_m] gripped the sides of his head, trying to force himself to stop. His father’s words, which he’d heard time and time again, ricocheted against his skull.
Stop it! Stop letting him get to you!

[name_m]Eric[/name_m] automatically began rattling off what he remembered from his lessons during his schoolboy days, but stopped abruptly when he noticed her staring at him quizzically.

Next word: notice

Don’t notice me, don’t notice me, she prayed. Please, for the love of cupids, please don’t let him notice me…
“Miss [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], may I speak with you for a moment?”

Next: love

“Okay, I love you and all, Lils, but this is sort of going against a law of my religion? I can’t do that!” [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] said, looking pale.
“Isn’t saving a life something you can break the rules for?” I asked. “My sister learnt about this… isn’t it called pikuach nefesh?”
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] looked like she wanted to murder me.

Next: saving

“I’m glad.” [name_u]Doctor[/name_u] Savings looked at her without a shred of warmth in his eyes. His pale hands were grasped behind his perfectly tailored green wool suit, the silver chain of his ever-present pocket watch gleaming in the afternoon sunlight. “Now, Miss [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], would you care to explain to the class what would happen in a matter of magic depletion?”

Next: pale

A cloud drifted away from the moon, casting everything in pale light and illuminating the water.

“The light’s fading,” [name_u]Everett[/name_u] remarked, looking over at her with a dazzling smile.

Next: dazzle

Half of her face was occupied by a toothy smile that seemed too dazzling to be genuine.

“Good news!” she announced, wiping a bead of sweat from her brow with shaking hands. “I’ve been promoted!”

Next: shaking

[name_f]Amy[/name_f] stared out at the horizon, trying to think. [name_f]Layla[/name_f] was giving her one of those ‘you know you want to’ looks, and she did, but the idea of leaving Trenfail made her feel sick. If she’d not been so close to the edge of a cliff, she’d probably be shaking.

Next: horizon

She was sitting on cracked, dry ground covered in dead shrubs, and next to her lay a strange black path that was dotted with yellow lines. Mountains sat on the horizon, looming in the distance. [name_f]Every[/name_f] so often, a crude green statue of a man stood, arms raised, covered in black needles.

Next: strange

It was strange, really, how she could stare into the eyes she had once so coveted and feel nothing. The posture she had once admired had become pompous, the lips she had so tenderly kissed had been poisoned by his scorn for her. Nothing had changed, but everything was different.

Next: kiss/kissed

“Kiss me, Melody.”

“I am an independent woman. I don’t take orders from any man.”

“Will you kiss me, then?”

“Maybe, if you ask nicely.”

“Please?”

“Please what?”

“Please, kiss me.”

Next word: please

“Astrid? Are you okay?”
“Yeah…I just… I….” [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] felt as if the ground had fallen from beneath her. The words just wouldn’t come out of her mouth.
“I know this news isn’t what you expected, but you have some options with this. We’ll talk soon to discuss them, but right now I’ll just let you take it in. Please call me if you have any questions or need anything at all.”

Next: fall/fallen

The air was burning.
The ground was shaking.
The buildings were falling.
The people were screaming.

Next: burning

Maybe it was all a bad dream, he thought. Maybe I never tried out for the team. Maybe that psychopath with a sword was just a figment of an overactive imagination.

And then he opened his eyes. And felt the searing, burning pain in his chest.

Next: dream

“It’s a strange story,” [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sighed, staring down at the notebook. “She based it off a sort of dream series she had, apparently. I just wish I knew how it ended.”

Next: ended

He must have struck his intended target directly, [name_m]Eric[/name_m] deduced, as the infernal chiming ended abruptly.
