[name_f]Do[/name_f] you ever get tired of looking at your short list? Or feel that you just keep seeing and hearing the same names over and over? I’ve been a baby name fan for most of my life and now that the hubby and I are TTC all the names on my list seem over done.
What are the newest additions to your list? Are they names you’ve never heard before or names that started to be more appealing over time?
A couple of mine are:
[name_f]Bria[/name_f] - recently met a girl with this name, thought it was quite lovely and maybe a replacement for my frontrunner [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] - this name never jumped out at me until recently when I started looking into family names I realized it would be a great way to honour my mom (mn [name_f]Lynne[/name_f]) and my mother-in-law (mn [name_u]Joyce[/name_u])
I would say [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_f]Aveline[/name_f]/Avelina are the newest for the girls. [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] “[name_m]Bear[/name_m]”, [name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_m]Adler[/name_m], and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] for the boys.
My short list is pretty much rock solid (for girls, not as much for boys), but my long list is always growing. [name_m]New[/name_m] ones will be [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_m]Saxon[/name_m]- this one is still more of a consideration then an addition. It fits my style and I like the look, but I’m not convinced with the sound
[name_m]Bowman[/name_m]- I don’t know how this name escaped my attention before. It was just a surname in my mind, but I started seeing it pop up here and there on namberry and I realized it is almost perfection!
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]- A good old nameberry favourite
[name_m]Adriel[/name_m]- I’ve always liked [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], but it’s a little popular for my taste, plus I don’t have the best association. [name_m]Adriel[/name_m] sounds similar but with all those problems! Bonus: it has the name [name_m]Riel[/name_m] built in which is another love/honour name.
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]- I have no idea why this hasn’t been on my list before!
Song- I used to have this on my list (middle name only), but somehow it got forgotten along the way. So beautiful.
[name_u]Silver[/name_u]- see Song
[name_u]Navy[/name_u]- this is also just a consideration so far. I love the blue aspect, I love blue names ([name_u]Blue[/name_u], [name_f]Azure[/name_f], [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]!) but the sound isn’t as pretty as some others.
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]- this is a really new one that I’d never considered before. If I stretch my imagination it could even be an honour name ;). I love the sound and look.

[name_u]Arlo[/name_u] [name_m]Knox[/name_m] - I found [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] to be a very cute name ever since I found it around two years ago, and I’ve only recently found what I think is the perfect middle for it - [name_m]Knox[/name_m]! It has just the right level of spunk and the x gives it an added bit of strength
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u] Oleander - [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] is a family name that I’ve always loved…Oleander is a nice nature name that I think has the feel of an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]/[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] mix, but without it being weird or made up!
[name_m]Alec[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] - I’ve loved the name [name_m]Alec[/name_m] ever since I can remember, but it’s quite a soft sounding name to me, so I needed another short, strong name to pair with it…at first I didn’t see the appeal in [name_m]Fox[/name_m], but it really grew on me to the point I loved it enough to pair with a long time favourite
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] - no real reasoning behind why I like this one…I just do! I love the feel and sound of it, it’s fun to say
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] - I love girls names to have a romantic vibe about them, and I think this fits the bill perfectly
[name_f]Margo[/name_f] [name_u]Seren[/name_u] - no reasoning behind this one, again I just like the sound/feel of it
[name_f]Alexa[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u] - I’ve always loved [name_u]Alex[/name_u]- names for girls, particularly [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] and [name_u]Alexis[/name_u], but have tossed around middles with them a lot…[name_u]Rain[/name_u] is the first middle I’ve paired with [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] that has just clicked straight away, and has been on my full list for around two months now, so I bumped it up to my shortlist
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_f]Solstice[/name_f] - again, no real reasoning…the flow was just spot on to my ear, and it’s fun to say
I’ve just had a reorganise of both my long lists, especially the girls. [name_f]Sally[/name_f]'s new to my top 10, and I just (like an hour ago haha) added [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] too. I kind of feel bad because I replaced [name_f]Clio[/name_f], which I just added as well. Then [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] really shot up to top 20, and I’m actually considering using [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]. And [name_m]Prosper[/name_m]‘s the newest to my boys’ top 10.
To my whole longer list, I’ve added [name_m]Aleksei[/name_m] for boys, and I’m thinking of adding [name_u]Remy[/name_u] and [name_m]Warren[/name_m] at some point. For girls the most recent additions are [name_f]Ziva[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], Pompeia (as a guilty pleasure), [name_f]Violetta[/name_f]/[name_f]Violeta[/name_f], Azula, and [name_f]Hestia[/name_f] Wildrose. I’m also loving [name_u]Silver[/name_u] and thinking about [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], as middles for either gender right now.
My favorites have stayed basically the same for years. They are all names I would actually use on a child. Recently I have added [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. I adore/love so many names but when it comes down to naming an actual child my list shrinks to mostly the names in my signature along with a few others, like [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], …
I am totally digging [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] at the moment. I doubt I would ever use it as a first name, though my husband said it would make a cool middle name. I think the nn [name_u]Tavi[/name_u] (tay-ver) is super sweet.
I recently added [name_f]Colette[/name_f] & [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] to my signature along with new combo [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f].
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - I’ve always loved [name_f]Leora[/name_f] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]- names in general. Not a fan of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f], though, so it took getting past that and sort of seeing this name as a whole greater than the sum of its parts for me to appreciate the romantic [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] (and [name_f]Leonor[/name_f].) I think it fits well with the rest of my list.
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] - Seems to be having a moment here on NB! For me, it’s that every time I see or hear about [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] I fall a little more in love with her name. That, and seeing some of the awesome combos other berries come up with for it.
Sanan - A super obscure Welsh oddity I found in a book. I can barely find any info on it, but it seems to mean “saintly.” I don’t know why I like it so much, but ever since I read it it’s been stuck in my head.
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] - One I’ve always appreciated in others’ signatures and combos, but hesitated to add to my own list. It took pairing it up with [name_f]Adela[/name_f] to make me really love [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f].
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] - Another one I’ve loved forever. Not sure why it’s never made it onto my list until now.
Aril - This is the word for the fleshy, fruit part around the seeds of pomegranates and other fruits. I think it sounds like a cool, updated version of [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and kind of love the delicious meaning.
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] - This one I hesitated to add/admit I liked because it feels like a mismatch with the rest of my style, but whatever. I love it, I think it has a broad, down-to-earth appeal.
[name_m]Fidelio[/name_m] - I liked it, but never gave it much thought until I noticed it in @belcanto’s signature. She also had [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] Figaro as a combo, which gave me the idea of [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Fidelio[/name_m], which I love.
[name_m]Forest[/name_m] - Like [name_f]Zara[/name_f] and [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], I kind of can’t believe this one hasn’t been on my list until now.
[name_u]Scout[/name_u] - This one is honestly just there because I like it so much with [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Fidelio[/name_m]. Not sure whether it will stay on the list long-term based on its own merit, haha.
[name_m]New[/name_m] to my Short List!! Girls [name_f]Hope[/name_f]- [name_f]May[/name_f] just be a phase but it goes nicely with my daughters name!
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]- Not a huge unisex fan but it just adds that uncommon yet familiar sound to my list!
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]- Short and sweet yet somewhat exotic!
Breese([name_u]Reese[/name_u]/[name_u]Reece[/name_u] with a B)- Met someome with this last name!
Boys Ryden- I Like [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] but it was needing a little oomph!!
[name_m]Harris[/name_m]-Not a fan of [name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]- Feels a little plain but its growing on me
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]- I want to fall in love with this name but something keeps me back!!!
[name_m]Hayes[/name_m]- Absolute [name_u]Love[/name_u]!!!
[name_f]Carrie[/name_f] - I liked it as a kid but thought it was an “old lady name”; I recently started to like it again as a way to honor [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]
[name_f]Fatima[/name_f] - never thought much of it until I heard the nickname “[name_m]Tima[/name_m]”
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] - met a girl with this name at school and thought it was pretty edgy
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] - This website has really revitalized this name.
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] - had never heard the name until joining this site
[name_u]Amari[/name_u]/[name_u]Omari[/name_u] - just recently started to appreciate this name
[name_m]Cassian[/name_m] - I like the idea of a name that honors [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars, although I don’t particularly like [name_m]Cassian[/name_m]'s character. Cool name though.
[name_m]Duke[/name_m] - heard it as a middle name and thought it would be cool as a first name too
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] - same as [name_m]Duke[/name_m]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] - always liked it for a girl, just started to like it for a boy
Currently playing with new combo [name_f]Heather[/name_f] [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Hettie[/name_f]’ - I’m not completely sure about it, as [name_f]Heather[/name_f] feels slightly connected to some girls I knew at school and it’s a little 80s to my mind, but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the colour and nature association (fields of lovely heather), and it’s actually a very pretty name. [name_f]Hettie[/name_f] is the only nickname I can think of, and I quite like it. So it’s ‘in’ for the moment!
My newest are [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], and [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], [name_m]Grayson[/name_m], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], and [name_u]Reid[/name_u] for boys.
Some recent(ish) additions to my list: [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], Ismeria, [name_f]Hera[/name_f], [name_u]Evan[/name_u], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], Ronen, [name_m]Fabian[/name_m]
