Niamh as a nickname for Genevieve

The name [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] has been growing on me. What do you think about [name_f]Neve[/name_f]/[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] for short?

I definitely like it better than [name_f]Genny[/name_f], [name_f]Genna[/name_f]. I also like simply [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a nn.

I really like it with the spelling [name_f]Neve[/name_f], but not the Irish spelling (just too different from the full name). It’s a refreshing nn for it, good catch!

I like the name [name_f]Nieve[/name_f], which is the same pronunciation of [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]. The whole reason I know who to pronounce [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is because of her.

[name_f]Neve[/name_f] definitely works, but [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] being such a completely distinctive and entirely separate name, the sound of which is arguably present in the name, but the spelling not at all, doesn’t work. That would be like nicknaming a [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], Aiofe or something. The sound is there, kinda, but it’s just not appropriate. If you want a really cool Irish name, pick one, but you don’t get the cool Irish name card unless you pick a cool Irish name, imo. You do find [name_f]Neve[/name_f] in Genevieve, though, and even the letters used to spell it are plucked from the original name. I think it’s a nice, unique choice for a nn! I knew a [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] in school who went by [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], which I also thought was fabulous.
