The correct pronunciation of [name]Niamh[/name] is either Neeve (one syllable) or Nee-iv (two), depending on what part of the country you are from.
I’ve never heard it pronounced with a short e before, I don’t think there’s a legitimate pronunciation with a short e.
I think “nehv” is the American prn used by those who think that prn is better, or never heard [name]Niamh[/name] prn correctly. I’ve only ever heard “neeve.”
I know a few Niamhs and they all pronounce it “neeve” too
I pronounce it Neeve (one syllable)
I pronounce them both like Neeve, just because I like the sound of that far more.
[name]Niamh[/name]'s pronounced NEEV (long e). You can listen here (link to forvo).
[name]Niamh[/name] is pronounced like Neev in Co. [name]Galway[/name], [name]Ireland[/name] which is where I’m originally from. Honestly I’ve never heard it pronounced any other way.
Pretend that [name]Neve[/name] doesn’t have an e on the end. There is an actress named [name]Neve[/name] [name]Campbell[/name] and that is how she pronounces it.
I believe that the Irish name [name]Niamh[/name] is pronounced neeve. Like the word knee.
I like nev and I would never use the Irish version because it is too difficult for people to spell and say.
Nee-v - it’s an absolutely stunning name that I’d be proud to have myself.
I’d love to use it but my boyfriend would never be swayed. I was watching videos on the Wheelie Bug on youtube and there was a little girl called [name]Maeve[/name] - ([name]Mai[/name]'v) and he was like “Why is she called that?!” and then he heard the accent of the mother and was like “Ohhh she’s Irish, fair enough!”…
The actress is the only time I’ve heard that name with a short e sound. I prefer the neeve pronunciation, and the niamh spelling. My friend has a baby girl with a very irish name in the states and i don’t think it’s that difficult for people to get. Sure she’ll probably never find someone who pronounces it correctly (or even has a clue) on the first try, but once it’s heard, it’s easy to remember.
