I think it’s totally acceptable! I also think that JJ is adorable for a girl, though I am also not a fan of TJ for a girl. My JJ could be biased since I am a huge Criminal Minds fan and one of the female characters on the show is called JJ.

Definitely acceptable! I have two friends who often go by their initials, AJ and TJ. They are both tomboyish in a sense, but all the same, they’re still girls. And no one ever has said a word about their nicknames, so I think it’s definitely ok

I’m not a fan of initial nicknames, but its still totally acceptable

It’s acceptable. I know a lot that went by them when they play sports. It does come off as more tomboyish, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

I think it’s fine, but I don’t like initial nicknames on most people.

Thanks for the feedback! I’ve never entertained the idea before but we love nicknames, and think about nickname potential with every first name we consider. [name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to explore more options as naming our next child (due in [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_u]June[/name_u]) has been extremely difficult thus far & SO keeps pushing the name [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] as a middle, but it’s very difficult to pair and doesn’t have much nickname potential on it’s own apart from Drey.

I think it’s adorable! I knew a little AJ.

I think it works just fine! I once read a book with a character nicknamed CJ- she was the girliest of girly girls, and a ballerina. And she still rocked her nickname.
I think nicknames are were you can truly go all out. A few years ago [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] was only “for boys”, look at it now!

I know an [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] who goes by AJ! She has all of the spunk you would expect from an AJ too! I think it is cute and unique.

I never realized this was a thing girls did! It’s starting to grow on me  I greatly appreciate the positive feedback. Thanks everyone!! It’s always nice to hear about good name associations from others.

I love the nickname [name_m]Chuck[/name_m] for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] a la pushing Daisies, even though I tend to like classically feminine names in their long form. I think quirky and uncommon nicknames bring individuality that is necessary, especially when picking a name a lot of other kids their age may have.

I love AJ! One of my favorite combos is [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u]/[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] because of the AJ nickname possibility. I think it can really balance out a name and make it spunky and fun :).

I really like AJ, but I am biased, as my bestie is called AJ ([name_f]Alison[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]) by her husband! I call her [name_u]Ali[/name_u], but she is also AJ to me as I hear him referring to her that way all the time. They just had their second son, who is [name_m]Arjen[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], keeping the AJ like his mother (though he is called [name_m]Arjen[/name_m]). I also have an AJ in my signature at the moment ([name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]) though I would use [name_u]Ari[/name_u] for that combo.

While I don’t usually love initial nicknames, sometimes they really do just work and come about quite naturally in life. I have another friend who goes by CJ, her first and surname (first name is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]).

[name_m]How[/name_m] fun! I love hearing all these name combos of people you all know.

We are considering [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]/[name_u]June[/name_u] if we decide on [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] as a first over [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. I’m wondering if we could get away with JJ as a nickname now if we choose [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] as the first, even though we’ve been looking at other middles for it. I would assume “[name_f]Jill[/name_f]” would be the go-to nickname on that, but it would be nice to have something more personal from us as her family.

Thanks, everyone!
