Nickname as first name?

I think my husband and I have decided on the name Lottie Wren for our baby girl! We both really love it, but my one concern is making her first name something that is technically a nickname. I’ve been through every possible name that could intuitively be shortened to Lottie and I’m just not a fan. Also, she’ll have a hyphenated last name, so we don’t want to give her a longer first name, hyphenated last name, but have her go by a nickname (just too complicated).

Do you think Lottie stands well on its own?
Will my daughter outgrow it as she gets older or is it timeless enough to grow with her?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

To me, [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] stands perfectly well on its own. It’s timeless, and I can definitely picture it on someone of any age, and any type of person. [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is beautiful!!

I think Lottie works perfectly on its own! It’s actually in the top 100 most popular baby names in England, so there are plenty of just Lotties out there!

IMO [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] would be nicer and would work better for her an an adult.

Unfortunately, I have several issues with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. It’s way too popular right now and I knew a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and now have serious negative connotations attached to it. The hard t at the end doesn’t work with the last name, which also ends in a hard t sound. I do appreciate your input and if you have any other names that could be shortened to [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] that don’t end in t, I’d be open to suggestions.

I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is fine on it’s own!

I think name your daughter what she will be called! [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is lovely!

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is fine and I love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. I think you should give your baby the name you’re going to call them, not a “fall back” name or “something longer for when they’re an adult”. There are nickname names out there on adults that work fine. Go for it!

I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] stands perfectly fine on it’s own. The only name I’ll put forward is [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]

By the way, I love the combo [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]!

I like [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]! I think it works well for all ages.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], or [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]!

A stretch but [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], or maybe [name_f]Lieselotte[/name_f]? Although those also end with a T.

Ooh, Charlotta/Carlotta! Maybe even just [name_f]Lotta[/name_f] would be better. How did I not think of that before!?

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is absolutely lovely! I can see [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] working on its own just fine

I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] can definitely work on its own! [name_f]Lota[/name_f] actually ranks at no. 40 in Croatia, so while not the same I think that’s proof that it’s definitely usable as is! [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is gorgeous!

Seems very nickname to me but Im in the US. I think it works fine though people might assume its short for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Depends where you live. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] could also work as a longer name if you like that.

More info! In the US, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is #4 but [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is outside the top 1000.

The only baby [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] I know goes by [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]!

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is so adorable! I’d say go for it!

Definitely works on its own! I’ve come across many adults with nicknames as first names and it works perfectly well on them.

I adore Lottie!!
