[name_m]How[/name_m] is [name_m]Edel[/name_m] pronounced? I presume it’s eh-del not ee-del.

I prefer [name_f]Edeline[/name_f] with the -line ending, but no, I don’t think it’s too made up sounding.

Edelweiss would depend on where you live, I think.

Are you pronouncing [name_m]Edel[/name_m] sort of like ‘EY-del’ (almost rhymes with cradle/fable), or more like ‘[name_m]EDD[/name_m]-el’ (to rhyme with medal) or ‘eh-[name_u]DEL[/name_u]’ (closer in sound to [name_f]Adele[/name_f])?
I have a feeling Edelweiss might be pronounced more like EY-del-veiss (like in the Sound of [name_f]Music[/name_f] song) than [name_m]ED[/name_m]-del-veiss by most English speakers.

I think [name_f]Edeline[/name_f] is a nice name, and it doesn’t look made up to me.

There are a few options that might work, depending on your heritage etc.

[name_m]Edel[/name_m]/e is a girl’s name in its own right in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and Scandinavia, even though NB doesn’t have a girl’s page for it. Of the people mentioned on the Wikipedia page, the Irish and Scandinavian Edels and Edeles are women, and the Cuban Edels are men (maybe a variant of Edelmiro?). A quick search suggests [name_m]Edel[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] popularised the name in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], and some of the sites about her say her full name was Edelweiss.

The Nordic Names wiki notes medieval e.g.s of Edela as a name, but I don’t know how reliable it is as a site. I did find an 18th-century Edela (from [name_u]Sweden[/name_u], I think) on ancestry.com.
I googled Edella and the first hit was for a University professor, so that name seems to have worked fine for her.
Edelle, Edelette, Edelinda, Edelita and Edelina also returns some results (facebook pages, LinkedIn ancestry.com, professional pages), and there was an aristocratic Edelmira

I suspect [name_f]Edeline[/name_f] (and [name_m]Edel[/name_m]/e and Edella etc) would be misheard as [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Adella[/name_f] etc). There are lots of names that are often misheard, so I don’t think it’s necessarily a problem, but it’s something to consider. I expect [name_f]Edeline[/name_f] would just learn to enunciate (or introduce herself as [name_f]Edeline[/name_f]-with-an-e).

I like the name [name_f]Edelle[/name_f] and I think it works as a stand alone name. I also like Edelweiss and I don’t think it’s too out there. [name_f]Edeline[/name_f] doesn’t look made-up.

Ebenelle or Edenelle maybe?
