Nickname for Adelaide that isn't Addie?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!

I’ve started to see the name [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] used more often but I’m wondering if the default nickname would be [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. Can you think of other nicknames for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] to differentiate the name from the hordes of Addisons, Adelines, etc.?

I don’t care for [name_f]Addie[/name_f] either. I’ve seen Lady suggested before, as well as Dela, [name_f]Ada[/name_f], and [name_f]Delia[/name_f].

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] or Lady/[name_f]Laidy[/name_f], maybe [name_u]Dell[/name_u]

[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_u]Dell[/name_u]
[name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_f]Dellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] (if you don’t want to be part of the throng of Addies, you probably don’t want to be part of the flock of Ellies either, though  )
Aidie
Laidie
Laida

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is a family name for me, and one of my siblings is seriously thinking of using it if the baby they’re expecting is a girl. I have [name_f]Addie[/name_f] Fatigue, too, so I’ll be interested to see what you come up with!

Excellent suggestions! I don’t think I’d choose the name, myself. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering how nicknames fair with a slightly more offbeat name amongst very mainstream similar names. Like, a friend just named her daughter [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] which I think is a little more unused than [name_u]Madison[/name_u] yet still chose the nickname [name_f]Maddie[/name_f].

Also of interest, people that insist on calling little [name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] by [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] despite everything. Is it just something that will happen regardless of the nickname you want?

My favorite out-of-the-box nickname for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Day[/name_u] could work too.

Of course, I second the suggestions of [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

I wonder that too. It always feels like a bit of a letdown to me when someone chooses an uncommon, lovely name, but the nickname is the same as the one for the most popular names out there. It’s not my style, but as a kid I knew an [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] who went by [name_u]Stacy[/name_u], and it always felt like a shame that her name was a “secret”!

[name_f]Adele[/name_f], ellie, adie (aid-ee)?

I like dell/[name_f]Delle[/name_f]

Other nicknames for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] that may be stretching it to avoid repeats or if u want something more unusual:

[name_f]Ada/name_f, [name_f]Didi[/name_f], [name_f]Dia/name_f

[name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_m]Daley[/name_m], dale, [name_u]Allie[/name_u]

I liked the pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Delia[/name_f]. My name is [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] and my mom was super insistent that I not be called [name_f]Becky[/name_f]. So, I go by [name_f]Becca[/name_f] and I’ve never been called [name_f]Becky[/name_f]. My husband’s grandmother is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and we want to name a daughter after her someday but we will call her [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I think it’s all about the parents and what thy tell people, once they get to school they can decide. My teachers always asked me if I went by [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] or [name_f]Becky[/name_f] and I’d say Actually I go by [name_f]Becca[/name_f]

I know a little [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]. She is about 2-3 years old.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m]. I like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] but dislike [name_f]Addie[/name_f] too. What about [name_f]Leda[/name_f]?

Adelai, Lai, Ads, [name_f]Delli[/name_f], Laidie, [name_f]Delle[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. There are plenty of nicknames floating around for this name!

I’d use [name_f]Della[/name_f]

[name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], but hate [name_f]Addie[/name_f] so I feel your pain. Luckily, there are lots of alternatives, many have already been mentioned. My favourites are [name_f]Ada[/name_f] (which is a family name) and [name_f]Della[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Leia[/name_f] would work too

I know an elderly [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] who goes by "Lady,’’ which I though was weird when I was young. I like Aidy or [name_u]Dell[/name_u] or [name_f]Heidi[/name_f].

I like [name_u]Dell[/name_u], [name_f]Delle[/name_f] and [name_f]Della[/name_f] but I also think Dells would be OK

I thought Lady when I first saw the title but my next thought was dog name, sorry! o)

[name_f]Adie[/name_f]
Lady
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_u]Dell[/name_u]
[name_f]Della[/name_f]

[name_f]Della[/name_f] and Lady are my favorites.
