I love the name [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m], but have fears about its length and pronunciation. I love easy nicknames, so I would love to find one for this name. I can only think of “Zar”, but not sure if I like it. What do you think of it?

You could always do something with the meaning of Balthazar: “Baal protects the King.” Nns: Kingly, Kingsley, Royal, Knight, etc.
Since Balthazar, Melchior, and Caspar were the Magi, you could use Magi or maybe Magic as nns.
I immediately thought Althy, but that might be confused with [name_u]Alfie[/name_u].
I probably wouldn’t go with Zar, as it sounds an awful lot like Tsar, but that is just me.

I really like [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]! I think [name_m]Baz[/name_m] is what I would go with. I agree that it’s a difficult name to nickname, and for me personally [name_m]Baz[/name_m] just comes up as the most intuitive option.
I agree with Nono. I love, love this name and I would also go for [name_m]Baz[/name_m] of [name_m]Bas[/name_m].

I love [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]! And part of that comes from the possibility of nickname [name_m]Baz[/name_m]. He just sounds cool, and he could be the soccer star who would rather read books than party or the theater geek who’s quiet everywhere but the stage or the class president.
Thaz or Taz would be cool. A bit like [name_m]Charles[/name_m]’ [name_m]Chaz[/name_m], no?

I just stumbled upon [name_m]Basil[/name_m] with the meaning “kingly” and I immediately thought of this posting about [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] and the king connection. Not sure if it would work for you.
It’s actually my step-dad’s last name…minus the “H”. I would think possible nicknames might be:
Balto (like the movie)
Zar
Zarro/Zorro
I worry about some of the nn’s proposed…like Bally…the kids are going to have a field day with that one.

But if you name him something as grand and unusual as [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m], why not just call him [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]?
There is a famous Icelandic director named [name_m]Baltasar[/name_m] Kormákur (Icelandic version of [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]) and he is occasionally known as Balti. Might be a bit too much of a curry overtone for English, though…
