My partner and I are debating using Charles Birch for our little guy (it was my grandfather’s name, so please direct any and all praise to my great-grandmother )
That being said, using Charles on the daily just isn’t our vibe. My grandfather didn’t go by his full name either, and honestly… we know way too many dogs named Charlie. Like, so many.
Because of this, I’ve been scheming for other nicknames and two have really stuck:
Cal – easy, breezy, and pairs perfectly with my all-time favorite, Beau. I know this isn’t a traditional nickname for Charles but it kind of works…?
Chuck – I love the mid-century charm, especially alongside other favorites like Betty, Hank, etc.
What do you think of either - or both? Are there any other fun nickname ideas I might be missing?!
For context, here are some of our other top contenders: Boys: Beau, Gus, Hank, Oscar, Otis Girls: Betty, Clementine, Cleo, Goldie, Olive
Thanks, y’all!
Cal
Chuck
waitwaitwaitwait I’ve got another idea!!
Girl, you’re insane. Please pivot for the sake of your future child(ren).
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Birch[/name_m] is so dashing! And gosh, all of your names are just lovely.
I absolutely love [name_m]Charles[/name_m] nn [name_m]Cal[/name_m]. It’s unexpected, but it completely works. I love [name_m]Charlie[/name_m], but totally get that dog thing. That’s pretty funny!
[name_m]Chuck[/name_m] does fit your style, but I just don’t know if it’s ready for a comeback. Maybe pop culture has made this one a little difficult to picture in real life on a 2026 babe.
My other [name_m]Charles[/name_m] nick-names that I like aside from [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] & [name_m]Cal[/name_m] are:
My FIL is [name_m]Charles[/name_m] but he goes exclusively by [name_m]Chick[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] another option because I know it’s not totally intuitive.
[name_m]Cal[/name_m] makes so much sense! [name_f]Love[/name_f] the family ties with [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Birch[/name_m] with a fresh nickname
I’m a big [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] fan, but I always thought [name_m]Chase[/name_m] was a fun nn for [name_m]Charles[/name_m] too (although [name_m]Chuck[/name_m] works much better with your other midcentury loves!).
