Hello,
We just found out that we are expecting a little baby boy in [name_u]August[/name_u]! His name will be [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Fraiser, and we are thinking about using [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] as a nickname, but since you guys are so good at it I figured I’d ask if you have any suggestions? (DH is Scottish and I am Scandinavian if that’s of any help)
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is great!!
[name_u]Jem[/name_u] or [name_u]Jay[/name_u] would also be nice!
A more off beat nickname could be [name_m]Jax[/name_m] (James Alexander)
[name_u]James[/name_u] is very sweet. I know a couple of guys with this name who go by [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m], and I also know of a [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and a [name_m]Jimbo[/name_m].
I’ve been crushing on [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] lately but I have been a [name_u]Jem[/name_u] fan for years. [name_m]Jago[/name_m] might be more of a stretch but I think it’s very cool.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.
I love [name_u]James[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u]. I also like Jass!
[name_u]James[/name_u] is lovely and classic, and [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is adorable. I had a boy on my street growing up called [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] who was just the sweetest thing. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] was my first thought, which someone has already suggested, so I’ll toss in [name_u]Jess[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u].
I love [name_u]James[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]! Otherwise, I’d go straight for straightforward [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] is popular on Nameberry, but I am admittedly not a fan. [name_m]Jim[/name_m]/[name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] feel a bit dated but aren’t bad. I’ve always appreciated [name_m]Jim[/name_m], and still do. [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] are my favorites, though!
All the best!
ETA: There is a famous series of novels/television series called Outlander whose male lead is named [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m], apparently (I knew he was [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m], but I didn’t know the whole name until I googled), who goes by [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]–I love the idea of [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], but I don’t know if that’d be a dealbreaker for you. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a heads up.
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is lovely! It’s my brother’s name. Not too popular but widely familiar, and pretty timeless.
I also love [name_u]Jem[/name_u], [name_u]Jay[/name_u], [name_m]Jago[/name_m] and [name_u]Jess[/name_u]. [name_u]James[/name_u] is such a fantastic versatile name!
I love [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]! I also really like [name_u]Jem[/name_u] & [name_u]Jess[/name_u]. However, as PP pointed out, there’s a pretty popular book series and now show called Outlander where the main character is named [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] ([name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]).
Outlander is the first thing I thought of…& [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] is a pretty darn excellent fellow to be named after! Incidentally, [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]'s grandson’s nickname is [name_u]Jem[/name_u]…
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] with the nickname [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]. I think it also gets a bonus nickname of [name_u]Jay[/name_u].
I love [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] so much! I also like Ames.
I know a [name_u]James[/name_u] called [name_u]James[/name_u]. It’s a very short name.
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is sweet, but very feminine to me, popular for girls.
I think I’d go for a unique NN while he’s small and then just switch to [name_u]James[/name_u] for school.
[name_m]Jim[/name_m], [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] are traditional but may be dated, not a bad thing.
What about Skippy, [name_m]Skipper[/name_m], [name_m]Skip[/name_m], [name_m]Chip[/name_m], [name_u]Sonny[/name_u], [name_m]Jam[/name_m], [name_u]Jay[/name_u]?
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is sweet, but my favourite nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u] is [name_u]Jem[/name_u], which I completely love. I’ve also heard [name_m]Jas[/name_m] for [name_u]James[/name_u], which was cool and unexpected.
[name_m]Jim[/name_m]/[name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] are both very Scottish, but feel extremely dated here. I know a 20 year old [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] and he’s started calling himself [name_u]James[/name_u] because he hates it.
My cousin is a [name_u]James[/name_u] and normally gets [name_u]Jay[/name_u] or JJ (JJ was more the nickname he used to get when he was younger and most people tend to call him [name_u]Jay[/name_u] now), though normally just goes by [name_u]James[/name_u] and it’s only his parents and close friends that call him [name_u]Jay[/name_u]/JJ.
I really like the idea of [name_u]Joss[/name_u] for [name_u]James[/name_u] though; and also [name_u]Jem[/name_u] but there’s [name_m]Jam[/name_m] or [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] as well!
[name_m]Jim[/name_m] and [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] are traditional nicknames, but seldom used nowadays.
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is a more modern, unisex option.
[name_u]Jay[/name_u] is sleek and appealing.
I also instantly thought of the Outlander connection! [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] is such a wonderful character!
I’m a female [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and can tell you that I’ve heard it worn more or less equally by both boys and girls over the years. Some people find it to lean more feminine, and others assume it’s masculine - I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people address me as “Mr.” or assume I’m a man on the basis of my first name alone! So I’d say it’s solidly unisex in that regard.
My fiance is a [name_u]James[/name_u], and he goes by [name_m]Jim[/name_m]/[name_m]Jimmy[/name_m]. It suits him and he likes it, but he’s in his 30s; most young [name_u]James[/name_u]’ I’ve met seem to go by just [name_u]James[/name_u], which I find to be a bit stuffy. That being said, A LOT of people call ME [name_u]James[/name_u] as a sporty/casual/endearing nickname, so I suppose it can go either way.
I do not recommend [name_m]Jam[/name_m] as a nickname, personally - that’s what my mom has always called me, and it drives me a little nuts, probably because the long A isn’t intuitive. [name_m]Jame[/name_m], sure, but [name_m]Jam[/name_m] gets under my skin.
I think [name_u]James[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is a wonderful choice, and I’m not saying that out of bias; I don’t have the opportunity to fall back on a “proper” name and have always resented that a bit, but as a nickname instead of a given name I think it’s refreshing, modern, and charming on a little boy!
We have a young [name_u]James[/name_u] and mainly call him just [name_u]James[/name_u]. Sometimes we call him [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] for an endearing nickname or just when a situation calls for a second syllable haha. Though I don’t often write it out, I usually spell it “[name_u]Jamey[/name_u]” because I tend to like keeping the majority of the original letters intact as possible when writing a nickname.
