We love the name [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], but our extended family tends to give all the kids nicknames. We don’t want him stuck with the nn [name_u]Jazz[/name_u]. Is the nn [name_m]Jax[/name_m] too much of a stretch for [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]?
[name_m]Jax[/name_m] doesn’t seem a stretch at all
Sper? Or even Speer came to mind
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you not like the sound of [name_u]Jazz[/name_u], or that it’s a word/that word? I would just use [name_m]Jas[/name_m]/[name_u]Jaz[/name_u] like [name_m]Cas[/name_m]/Caz for [name_m]Casper[/name_m]… sounds just like jazz, but I don’t really associated it with the word.
Otherwise, [name_u]Perry[/name_u]?
[name_u]Perry[/name_u] is cute! It’s not that I don’t like [name_u]Jazz[/name_u]… but some people very close to us have a dog named [name_u]Jazz[/name_u]. I just wouldn’t want to be called the same thing as a dog I’ll see frequently!
I think [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] is pretty neat ^^ There’s also [name_u]Perry[/name_u]. And [name_u]Jay[/name_u], or with the right middle you could use the initials, JC or JD or something?
[name_m]Jax[/name_m] just reminds me of [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m] so it really diminishes [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] for me.
I’ve only ever heard [name_m]Jas[/name_m], with a soft s NOT a z as in [name_u]Jazz[/name_u]. I do think [name_m]Jax[/name_m] is too much of a stretch, but [name_u]Jay[/name_u]/J could definitely work. I don’t like [name_u]Perry[/name_u] as a nn for it though because the per in [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is like purr while [name_u]Perry[/name_u] is Peary so that personally bothers me and also feels like a stretch.
The only way [name_m]Jax[/name_m] wouldn’t feel like a stretch to me is if his middle (or last) name started or ended with an X/K or X/cks sound. Similar with [name_u]Perry[/name_u]. Maybe if his name as something like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] or [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]Ryley[/name_u] where it made the hidden name [name_u]Perry[/name_u] (or [name_m]Jax[/name_m].)
To me [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is one of those names that doesn’t need a nn. Maybe instead of letting your family use one of those nn’s based off his name you could do one based on his appearance or personality, or the mispronunciation of his name by a smaller child in the family.
This!!! ^^^^
