Can you think of any nicknames for [name]Allegra[/name], besides [name]Ally[/name] and Leggy? We would use the full name the majority of the time but I would like to use a nickname sometimes. It would be good to establish one to offset the possibility that she may get called Leggy by others!
Thanks in advance.
PS We’re not in the US so the connection with the allergy medicine isn’t an issue for us, so no need to mention it!
[name]Allegra[/name] is a very sweet name! I wish it didn’t have the medicine connection here in the US. I think the most intuitive nickname would be [name]Allie[/name] but pronounced like [name]AH[/name]-lee, not [name]AL[/name]-ee (which would be a nickname for [name]Alison[/name] or [name]Alexandra[/name]). Also, I think it’s great to come up with a nickname beforehand, but I’ve noticed that nicknames usually arise on their own once the child is born. My name is [name]Lisa[/name] but my parents called me Cece since I couldn’t say [name]Lisa[/name] as a baby and called myself Cece (see-see). My little cousin was really small as a baby and we all started calling her Jellybean which turned into Beanie, which she still goes by to this day! Okay, so onto nicknames. Here are some other options (which are maybe a bit of a stretch):
[name]Ella[/name] (the first four letters backwards)
[name]Alla[/name]
[name]Legra[/name]
[name]Iggy[/name]
[name]Aggie[/name]
Rara
[name]Ari[/name]
[name]Ara[/name]
[name]Reggie[/name]
That’s all I could come up with that was reasonable. [name]Hope[/name] that helps!
I love [name]Allegra[/name]! I’m in the United States, though-- unfortunately, we have that allegry medication. If it weren’t for that, I’d use [name]Allegra[/name] for sure!
[name]Aggie[/name], as suggested by a previous poster, is adorable! This is a stretch, but since [name]Allegra[/name] means “cheerful, lively”, maybe [name]Liv[/name] would work? I don’t know…like I said, it’s a stretch! Other stretches include [name]Ellie[/name] and [name]Elle[/name]…
You could, of course, call her by an unrelated nickname like Sweetheart or [name]Honey[/name]… Those would work better as a term of endearment used at home, though-- it might be a bit odd to introduce yourself with the words, “[name]Hi[/name], I’m Sweetheart, nice to meet you!”
The nickname could be influenced by middle name, too. For example, [name]Allegra[/name] [name]Jane[/name] could be AJ, [name]Allegra[/name] [name]Niamh[/name] (AN) could be [name]Ann[/name]/e, [name]Anna[/name], or [name]Annie[/name], [name]Allegra[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] ([name]AD[/name]) could be [name]Addie[/name] or [name]Ada[/name], and [name]Allegra[/name] [name]Bridget[/name] ([name]AB[/name]) could be [name]Abby[/name] for her initials… You could also have a double name for a nickname, something like [name]Aggie[/name]-[name]Jane[/name]…
I completely accept the point that freckles made - often nicknames just arise from family life and experiences. [name]Allegra[/name] is only 4 months old so it may be that something suitable will emerge naturally as time goes on.
The idea of drawing on a middle name is intriguing though. She is [name]Allegra[/name] [name]May[/name] - does anything jump out at you from that combo?
[name]Allegra[/name] [name]May[/name] is lovely! AM-- [name]Amy[/name], [name]Amma[/name], [name]Aggie[/name]-[name]May[/name], [name]Emma[/name] (sort of like the initials backwards-- MA), [name]Emme[/name], [name]Emmy[/name]?
I love the name [name]Allegra[/name]. I have a close friend named [name]Allegra[/name], and she loves her name (and I am in the US, so allergy medicine is no big deal!)
We actually call her [name]Elle[/name] for her nickname, as her parents do, which she also loves.
Beautiful choice congratulations!
Okay, so with the letters A, M, and L, there’s [name]Alma[/name]. With [name]AL[/name], there’s [name]Alice[/name]. Neither are usually used as nicknames, but they are shorter than [name]Allegra[/name]…
Also, with [name]May[/name], there’s [name]Mei[/name] [name]Mei[/name]???), meaning “little sister” in Mandarin or [name]Mei[/name] Li (??) meaning “beautiful”…
Mmmhhh! Beautiful name, actually its in my list! I just love it, specially because of his soft sound, andhis meaning! Some nn? Its not a name with lot of them but it has some grat ones For example:
Alle
[name]Lea[/name]
Leli
[name]Ella[/name]
Lae
And imagine that you are going to give her lot of speciall nn (like princess, sunny, honey, baby doll) so don`t care about it!
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] is my favorite name. I’m in the US and cranky don’t care about the medication.
It’s a beautiful musical name and also after the ballerina [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_m]Kent[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband hates it.
I would nn her [name_f]Elle[/name_f] if it was [name_f]Allegra[/name_f].
