[name]Hi[/name]! My husband and I really like the name [name]Temperance[/name] (yes, totally got the name from “Bones”) and it’s high up on our list for a potential daughter. I really love the vintage, Victorian feel of the name. The only problem is that for the life of me, I can not come up with a nickname that I like. My husband isn’t very concerned about this as he’s not a very big fan of nicknames in general. Normally, I wouldn’t be so bothered by this, except that [name]Temperance[/name] is just sooo long (I mean seriously, that would be a lot of name for a kindergartener to spell).
So, does anyone have any nickname suggestions? My husband thinks that in time a nickname would just naturally evolve, which is probably true, but being a name nerd I’d feel better if we had something planned out (or at least something to fall back on).
They call her “Tempe” [temp-ee] on the show. I think maybe some less obvious nn would be [name]Annie[/name], [name]Peri[/name], [name]Emmy[/name], [name]Tansy[/name] (drawing from first initial and last syllable), and even Tem/Temmy? I just love the name in and of itself, and it’s not really too long. My name is [name]Jennifer[/name], which is only 8 letters to [name]Temperance[/name]'s 10, but I remember learning how to spell it and being proud of it. (Though it took my dad a while to convince me that my “Js” were backwards, lol.)
I immediately thought of [name]Peri[/name], too, but I [name]LOVE[/name] the pp’s brilliant suggestion of [name]Tansy[/name]. I think it really sweetens up a very adult name and makes it more accessible for a little one. Big thumbs up for that one! Although I just realized your name is [name]Pansy[/name] – is that your real name or a screen name? That could be a little much. :lol:
Thank you for all the great suggestions! My favorite so far is definitely [name]Tansy[/name]. I adore it! Hopefully I can convince my husband to love it as much as I do (we’re still a few years off from having kids, so I have time). I also like [name]Annie[/name] a lot too, so that’s a close second. Can’t really use [name]Em[/name]/[name]Emmy[/name] since that’s my cousin’s name and [name]Peri[/name]/[name]Perry[/name] is too masculine sounding for me. I know that [name]Temp[/name]/Tempe is the most logical nickname, but I just don’t find it appealing.
Oh, and no worries Chickpeaz. [name]Pansy[/name] is just my username so if we do end up using [name]Tansy[/name], it won’t be matchy with my name.
We have a baby girl due in late [name]August[/name] and we have 99% decided that she will be [name]Temperance[/name]… and only 99% because of ALL the things you mentioned in your post! I literally could have written that:) At this point, I was thinking of the NN [name]Tess[/name], but I’m not sure if it will seem too forced or like a completely separate name… I like the [name]Tansy[/name] suggestion too:)

Haha I [name]LOVE[/name] Bones!! The only nicknames I can think of for [name]Temperance[/name] is the one that they use in the show which is Tempe/Tempy/[name]Tempie[/name], which I think is pretty cute.
I’ve never watched Bones, so my first thought was [name]Peri[/name]. However, you said that sounds too masculine for you, so I would definitely root for [name]Tansy[/name]. It’s cute, and not too far from [name]Temperance[/name], so I think it would be easy to use.
