I have always had a certain fondness for the name [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and it’s on the top of my list of names to give to a future child. However, I have never truly found a nickname that I like well enough to use. [name_m]Vick[/name_m] would propbably be the only name I would consider using as a nickname (I do adore the nickname [name_f]Vita[/name_f], but I feel it’s more apporiate nickname for [name_f]Vittoria[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]), but then I realized that [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] name for the [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of [name_f]Victory[/name_f] while the Greek name is [name_u]Nike[/name_u].
Could [name_u]Nike[/name_u] work as a nickname for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] or should I consider the name [name_u]Nike[/name_u] instead of [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]?
I think [name_u]Nike[/name_u] is more usable as a given name than a nickname, honestly. As a nickname, the vast majority of people will assume it’s because she loved a particular pair of [name_u]Nike[/name_u] shoes as a kid or something. The connection with [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is clever, but I can’t imagine a way to explain that to people without coming off as pretentious.
I’ve known a woman named [name_u]Nike[/name_u] and it worked fine; most people understand it’s a mythology reference and not the brand since it’s her legal name. If anything, it comes off a little grand in the same way [name_f]Athena[/name_f] would, because she’s a very average sort of person.
If you’re not planning to use the name [name_f]Vittoria[/name_f], I see no reason you couldn’t use [name_f]Vita[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].
I don’t really have a defiant nickname of such. When I was little I was referred to as [name_f]Toya[/name_f] (like [name_f]Latoya[/name_f] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]) by my younger sister she now calls me [name_f]Vi[/name_f], or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] now. My Dad also called me [name_f]Vi[/name_f] and still calls me [name_f]Vi[/name_f]. During secondary school I was called [name_f]Vicky[/name_f] or Vicks by my teachers and school friends which are my least favourite nickname for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. In regards to my mother she is Polish-Israeli and most her family live in [name_m]Israel[/name_m] with some living in Poland they all call me [name_f]Vita[/name_f] and this is my favourite nickname. [name_f]Vita[/name_f] is so pretty, upbeat and has a great European vibe. Other nicknames options are [name_f]Ria[/name_f], [name_f]Tori[/name_f], and [name_f]Toria[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is prettier than [name_u]Nike[/name_u] and in regards to [name_u]Nike[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] I’m not keen. I also like the idea of nickname [name_f]Victory[/name_f].
I know Victorias that go by [name_f]Vicky[/name_f] mainly, but also [name_m]Vick[/name_m], Vicka, Vicko, [name_f]Vita[/name_f], Vichy, [name_f]Tori[/name_f] and [name_m]Vit[/name_m]. Yeah, I have many Victorias as friends, ha!
I think [name_f]Vita[/name_f] (or even [name_u]Nike[/name_u]) can definitely work. My favourite nickname for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is [name_f]Vika[/name_f] (Vicka?).
I know a few [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]'s, They go by [name_f]Tori[/name_f], [name_m]Vick[/name_m], [name_f]Tia[/name_f], and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]. I would maybe use [name_u]Nike[/name_u] as a nickname, just not intended to be related to [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. I would not use it as a real name because pronunciation issues. The brand [name_u]Nike[/name_u] is nie-kee. The goddess you talk about is pronounced nee-kay.
