The last few months I’ve been thinking about names we would use if we ever had another son. [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] was on our list when we were naming our son but it only placed around the middle of our list. It’s been growing on me and now I would probably place it at the top.

I don’t think [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] needs a nickname but I’m motivated to find one we both enjoy since our son goes by the shortened form of his name and it’s fun to have.
[name_f][/name_f]
The obvious nicknames don’t really appeal to us. We don’t mind [name_m]Will[/name_m] but we’d prefer something a little more off-beat or vintage to go with our son’s name. I’ve thought of a few but so far nothing has clicked.

So, what other nickname ideas can you think up for [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]? All suggestions welcome.

Bonus: If you had a son named [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], what nickname would you choose?
LOVE [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], but agree I’d rather have something [name_f][/name_f] with a little more pizazz other than [name_m]Will[/name_m] for a nickname. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are the above mentioned Wilfy/Wilf or [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]. I also love Wilby for [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m].
I have a great uncle [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] and his nn is [name_m]Wilf[/name_m]. I really like that but I think I’d want to use the stretchier [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] or [name_m]Wolfie[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]
Other stretches that appeal to me are [name_m]Woody[/name_m], Frew, Ilfie and Win/Wyn.
I love the name [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], and I’d shorten it to [name_m]Wilf[/name_m]. [name_f][/name_f]I don’t have many new suggestions other than perhaps Ted/Teddy although stretchy.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] top 3 for [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] are: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Wilf[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]Wills/Wells [name_f][/name_f]Fred/s
@EloiseT[name_f][/name_f] I could see you with a [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] – I guess that’s not surprising given your daughter’s name. [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] is one I like in theory but more for someone else than for me. Thanks for all your suggestions!
[name_f][/name_f]
@Nessie[name_f][/name_f] Thank you! All nice ideas but none quite right for us.
[name_f][/name_f]
@VEL[name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Fritz[/name_m], Freddo, [name_m]Frey[/name_m], [name_m]Fitz[/name_m], [name_m]Phil[/name_m], [name_m]Wiley[/name_m], [name_m]Wilmot[/name_m] are all new ideas to me. I’ll have to think about [name_m]Fritz[/name_m], [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] and [name_m]Wiley[/name_m] a bit more. Thank you for your suggestions!
[name_f][/name_f]
@CMV2254[name_f][/name_f] I’d thought of Wilby by combining [name_m]Will[/name_m] with our ‘B’ initial surname. But I’m not sure I love it. Thanks for commenting!
[name_f][/name_f]
@katinka[name_f][/name_f] Thanks for your response! [name_m]Wolfie[/name_m] is one we’ve discussed. I go back and forth on it but I’m pretty sure it’s a no for my husband.
@greyblue[name_f][/name_f] Thanks for your suggestions! Wizz and Widget are quirky. I hadn’t thought of them. Widget also reminds me of Idgy.
[name_f][/name_f]
@Johannaa[name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Will[/name_m] is probably still my favourite overall. [name_m]Wilko[/name_m], Wids and Fil are new ideas for me. Thank you!
[name_f][/name_f]
@user10[name_f][/name_f] Thanks for all your thoughts! I’d love the chance to use [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]. I’m usually drawn to clunky vintage names but when I was pregnant, I was feeling classics like [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], and [name_m]Sam[/name_m]. Funny how that happens!
[name_f][/name_f]
@EdgeOfTheMeadow[name_f][/name_f] That’s a great family connection. I’ve thought about [name_m]Wolfie[/name_m] quite a lot but I’m still not sure it feels like us. Frew, Ilfie and [name_m]Win[/name_m] / [name_m]Wyn[/name_m] are new ideas for me. I’ll have to give them some more thought. Thanks for commenting!
[name_f][/name_f]
@Hello1[name_f][/name_f] Thanks for your comment! I hadn’t thought of [name_m]Ted[/name_m] or [name_m]Teddy[/name_m].
If I had a [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], I think I’d use the nns [name_m]Wolfie[/name_m] or [name_m]Freddie[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] I don’t know that I can think of any that haven’t already been mentioned, unless it’s a combo nn like [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] “Wim” or something like that? [name_f][/name_f] Good luck!
@ashthedreamer[name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Wolfie[/name_m] is probably my next favourite after [name_m]Will[/name_m]. I’m starting to wonder if it might click better if there was a real baby. [name_m]Wim[/name_m] is a good idea. Thanks for commenting!

@AStudyIn_Scarlet[name_f][/name_f] Thanks for your suggestions! [name_m]Ned[/name_m], [name_f]Ily[/name_f], [name_m]Wild[/name_m] / [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] and [name_f]Elf[/name_f] / [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] are new for me.
