Nickname options for Nathaniel Isaac

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] smart and creative NB users! We named our son [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], after my father [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and my grandfather [name_m]Irving[/name_m], both deceased. Our baby is now 3 months old and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is proving to be a mouthful sometimes. Most people assume we are calling him [name_m]Nate[/name_m]. The issue is that my husband’s brother is [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], and he goes by [name_m]Nate[/name_m]. We knew this would be an issue but we were only going to name the baby after my father, so we had no choice to avoid this conundrum. Uncle [name_m]Nate[/name_m] lives in a different city and it’s not such a big deal if they share a name but it just feels weird for my husband and also me. Anyway, we’re looking for other possible nicknames. I’m not into [name_u]Nat[/name_u] and my husband doesn’t like [name_u]Izzy[/name_u]. Any other creative thoughts? Thanks everyone!!

Can’t think of any other nn for [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] but [name_m]Ike[/name_m] is my favorite nn for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m].

Maybe [name_u]Nick[/name_u] or [name_m]Ian[/name_m]?

[name_u]Neil[/name_u], maybe? Or [name_u]Nick[/name_u]? [name_m]Nils[/name_m]?

[name_u]Nick[/name_u] is a good suggestion from pps

Some of these might be a stretch
[name_u]Niall[/name_u]
Naz
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]

I’ve heard Than as a nickname for [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (the “th” sounding just like it does in those names, not like it does in the word “than”). I also love [name_m]Ike[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. FWIW, so many girls have 3-4-syllable first names and people rarely comment on those names being mouthfuls. I don’t think [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is such a tongue twister. If you don’t like any of the nicknames that are naturally derived from your baby’s given name, you could always choose one based on his appearance or personality. If his last name happens to start with a C or K, I think [name_u]Nico[/name_u]/[name_u]Niko[/name_u] could be gotten from his initials. Good luck, and congratulations!

Oh, I love [name_u]Nat[/name_u]!

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Nash[/name_m]?

As @seedsandstones said, [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] could definitely work without a nickname.

Otherwise -

[name_m]Natty[/name_m]
[name_f]Ani[/name_f]
[name_u]Nike[/name_u] [N for [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] + [name_m]Ike[/name_m] for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]]
[name_m]Yul[/name_m] [a name in its own right]
[name_m]Nino[/name_m] [Spanish for ‘kid’]
[name_f]Nani[/name_f] [naan-i, I think]
Han

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] nicknames I can think of include:

[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Nate[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
Natie
[name_u]Nick[/name_u]
Naythe
Nath
[name_m]Natty[/name_m]
Nuke
Nash

Then there’s the animal nicknames that every family eventually says:

Nightingale and newt

I was going to say nat but that’s a bug and nutella can give you cancer so nevermind

People sometimes call children by their middle name as well, so [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] or [name_u]Isa[/name_u] would be cute!

I like pps suggestion of [name_m]Nash[/name_m].

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]:
Nano
Nath (Nayth)

[name_u]Neo[/name_u], [name_u]Nico[/name_u], [name_m]Niel[/name_m], [name_u]Nike[/name_u], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_f]Issi[/name_f], Iso, [name_f]Io[/name_f], [name_f]Andi[/name_f], [name_m]Nye[/name_m]…

Another vote for [name_u]Nick[/name_u]

I also knew a [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] who went by Than (soft “th”). Very nice, friendly nickname I think!

[name_m]Niels[/name_m] might work?

Thank you SO MUCH everyone!!! Some great suggestions but nothing seems to work for both husband and myself. Any other suggestions will be appreciated !!! [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] continues to be called [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. But, I would still like a shorter option. His initials are NIE but my husband thinks “Nie” pronounced “Nai” is too feminine.

[name_m]Niles[/name_m], Nils, Niall, [name_u]Nico[/name_u], [name_u]Neil[/name_u], Ant, and [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] are the only ones I can think of I didn’t see mentioned (my apologies if they were and I just missed it).
