Nickname spelling for Genevieve

I’d like your opinion. We’ve decided on [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] for our baby girl’s name. There are a lot of great nicknames for this name, but I think the one we’ve agreed on is [name_f]Jenna[/name_f]. However, we are having trouble deciding how to spell it. Would you spell this nickname for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], [name_f]Genna[/name_f], or [name_f]Gena[/name_f]? If we spelled with a J, everyone would know how to pronounce the nickname, but I think it is weird having a nickname that does start with the same letter as the name. My husband is concerned [name_f]Gena[/name_f] or [name_f]Genna[/name_f] may be pronounced at [name_f]Gina[/name_f]. Thoughts?

I would spell her nickname [name_f]Genna[/name_f]. If you spell it [name_f]Gena[/name_f], I think people will constantly pronounce it [name_f]Gina/name_f.
If you’re set on her nickname being [name_f]Jenna[/name_f]; you could name her [name_f]Jenevieve[/name_f]-it is an equally appealing and beautiful name.

I don’t think it’s a problem. But then I have a C name with K nickname on my short list. It’s a nickname after all, so spelling shouldn’t be a big deal. [name_f]Jenevieve[/name_f] looks… wrong to me, but I like [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] more than [name_f]Gena[/name_f]. So vote for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] nn [name_f]Jenna[/name_f]. Or you can call her that and let her pick the spelling herself when she’s older.

I would go with [name_f]Genna[/name_f]. This would be the perfect spelling for the pronunciation you want. I also love [name_f]Gennie[/name_f]. So cute!!!

I would use [name_f]Genna[/name_f] or [name_f]Genny[/name_f].

I agree that I’d pronounce [name_f]Gena[/name_f] like [name_f]Gina[/name_f] (JEE-na). As long as you put two "N"s in it, it shoudn’t be pronounced like [name_f]Gina[/name_f]. [name_f]Genna[/name_f] feels the most intuitive because it starts with G, but if you really like [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], I don’t see why you couldn’t use it - after all, many Catherines have been nicknamed [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_u]Kaye[/name_u].

(And I know this isn’t part of your question - just wanted to say I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is a lovely choice!)

Congrats! [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is a beautiful name. Personally I don’t like the idea of changing the spelling to an entirely different name ([name_f]Jenna[/name_f]), so it’s between [name_f]Gena[/name_f] and [name_f]Genna[/name_f] for me.

I find [name_f]Gena[/name_f] the most visually appealing, though [name_f]Genna[/name_f] is the safer bet for pronunciation. If it were me, I’d probably go with [name_f]Gena[/name_f]. Unless you plan on almost never using her full name (in which case why not just go with [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] and forget [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]), then I assume most people would know her name is [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and therefore pronounce [name_f]Gena[/name_f] correctly. Good luck!

I prefer [name_f]Genna[/name_f]. I was best friends with a [name_f]Genna[/name_f] growing up, and from what I can remember, there were no pronunciation issues. I think [name_f]Gena[/name_f] would be pronounced [name_f]Gina[/name_f], but you can’t go wrong with [name_f]Genna[/name_f] or [name_f]Jenna[/name_f].
