Nicknames and middle name for Gwendolyn!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! We’re naming our third child [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], with the intent that she can use [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] especially as an adult (I see that as aging better on a biz card haha)

TWO questions.

  1. I can’t get the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] out of my head like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_u]Cooper[/name_u] who was a [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]! Is it too much of a stretch or weird to have her go by [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] OR [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or would [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] just stick then into adulthood? Hard to know but just curious if you’d find that odd if a child had multiple nns.

  2. What’s your favorite NATURE middle name to go with [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]? I’d like something to tone it down a bit or just add a bit of spunk! So far we have [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], and then [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] (because it’s a family name). Open to others!

Thanks!

I have a name I go by with my family and people I knew as a kid, then a name I often use in a work setting. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and his family also use my “work” name because that’s how they were introduced to me. Actually, my husband uses both now, but at first he only used the one. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is a beautiful name and I love the NNs. For a middle I’d go with…

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Fern[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Jewel[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f]

And I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]!

gwendolyn is lovely. i think gwen and winnie work! they give your daughter a couple lovely options for what she wants to go by. i personally love gwendolyn ‘dolly’.

as for a nature middle, i love…

  1. I think you could have her go by both [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], but it is possible that one will end up sticking/suiting better than the other - and, she might decide she likes one better too. I wouldn’t find it odd for a child to have multiple nicknames - growing up, different family members called me different things

  2. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] are all lovely!

A few other ideas: [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Holly[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Ivy[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Jade[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]River[/name_u]

I agree. Most of my family and friends all call me something different; their own designated nicknames, lol.

[name_f]My[/name_f] niece is [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and we call her [name_f]Gwennie[/name_f]! I definitely think yours could easily be both [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], especially if it’s like family vs. non family.

[name_f]My[/name_f] son is named [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] and everyone calls him [name_u]Max[/name_u], but his dad and I call him a variety of other names at home. Granted, he’s still a baby, but I’m hoping we find a unique nickname for him that is exclusively ours.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is just :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:  And the main reason I love it is because of [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_u]Cooper[/name_u]. I think that [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] works as a nn too, but I do personally prefer [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] & [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u]. I don’t like [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] as much in general, but Gwedolyn [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] sounds nice and I like that it’s a family name.

Sorry for any repeats, but how about…

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Clover[/name_f]

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u]

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Growing up a girl in my grade was named [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. Everyone called her [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. I don’t think it is a stretch to have [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as her nickname. She’ll probably be called [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] by a lot of her peers. [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is cute too. People might think [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is short of [name_f]Winona[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. Very pretty. Middle name suggestions: [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is so pretty! I love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]! I think it is possible for her to have two nicknames. One might feel like it fits her better or she may have a preference when she’s older, but I think you can use both.

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] are so pretty

Other ideas:
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Jade[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Oak[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

I knew a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] who always went by [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. It struck me as such a stunningly beautiful name.

If I used [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] as a first name I’d like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a middle name.

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] works well!

From your list I like [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].

Suggestions:
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Prairie[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Briar[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Storm[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Lark[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maple[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]

I know both grown up Winnie’s and Gwens and they both work well in adulthood! so i would say you can use both and don’t worry too much about which nickname “sticks”

As for middles my absolute favorite is [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Lark[/name_u]

[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin has daughter named [name_f]Gwyndolyn[/name_f] & she goes by [name_u]Gwyn[/name_u]. I love the idea of [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] as a NN for [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] & I think [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] works as well.

I’d guess that [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] will seem more or less intuitive to some people depending on how distinct/similar “en” & “in” are in someone’s accent.

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] could also have [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] / [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] as a nn.

Nothing wrong with multiple nicknames. I have a hyphen/double barrel first name and have gone by quite a few names over the years. Some are shortened from the first part, others from the second, and also the main one I am called is a combination of both names. AsI have gotten older I have grown to appreciate the second part of my name more than the first so have gone by that more.

I don’t think it’s weird, necessarily, for you to use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], especially if [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is more of an “around the house” name and you introduce her as Gwendolyn/Gwen. But having an expectation that she should drop [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as she ages if that’s become familiar among her family and friends is likely not to work out. [name_u]Or[/name_u] are could end up hating both and going by [name_f]Wendy[/name_f]. You never know. Establishing a clear pattern of usage if you intend to use both nicknames would help her “identify” with them earlier on, I think.

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Savannah[/name_f]

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is lovely and both [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] are great nicknames. I actually really like [name_f]Gwennie[/name_f], as well. Kind of [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] combined. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is a very intuitive shortening of [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], so to me it’s less a nickname and more of a shorter version of the name whereas [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] feels like a true nickname or maybe petname is a better term ie [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] being called [name_u]Jess[/name_u] vs [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] being called [name_u]Pumpkin[/name_u]. Does that make sense? Haha I think most people will naturally shorten her name to [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], so [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] would end up being more of the true nickname in which case you’d be fine to use both. [name_u]Or[/name_u] as others mentioned, she could have a family/close friends nickname/petname with [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and an everyday/school/work nickname with [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. Ultimately, she’ll choose which she likes she most as she gets older, though, so what you do in childhood may not matter much in the end.

As for middle names, I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Marlow[/name_u]! [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] really grounds [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. For nature suggestions–
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Snow[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Jade[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Briar[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] Rain/Raine
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u]

I’m not sure nature names are going to ground or tone down [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] because they end up sounding very whimsical, but I think that’s lovely.

OK I love Gwenny/Gwennie too!! I ca’t decide between [name_f]Gwenny[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Gwenny[/name_f] would be more natural…also LOVE [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Snow[/name_u]. If she wasn’t a [name_f]Spring[/name_f] baby I’d steal it
