What nicknames do you think would work for [name_m]Alan[/name_m]/[name_m]Allan[/name_m]/[name_m]Allen[/name_m] aside from [name_m]Al[/name_m]?
Would [name_f]Alie[/name_f] work despite its similarity to the female Alley? Any other creative suggestions?
Lal would be pretty cute. It’s the only other nn I can think of though.
[name_m]Allen[/name_m] with the nn [name_m]Lenny[/name_m]?
Thanks for the suggestions! I hadn’t thought of [name_m]Lenny[/name_m]. I really like [name_u]Allie[/name_u], though, hoping it is unisex enough these days…
[name_u]Allie[/name_u] was my initial thought. I really like [name_m]Al[/name_m] or [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. When I think of [name_u]Allie[/name_u], I think of [name_m]Holden[/name_m] Caulfield’s brother in The Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m]. It’s a wonderful literary choice! [name_u]Allie[/name_u] symbolizes youth and playfulness!
My brother’s called [name_m]Alan[/name_m] and the only ‘nicknames’ I’ve called him are [name_f]Alana[/name_f] and [name_m]Alonzo[/name_m]. It’s so short that nns aren’t really natural. The only other one I can think of is [name_u]Lanny[/name_u].
[name_m]Ah[/name_m], thanks for pointing out the Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m] reference with [name_u]Allie[/name_u]! I noticed that the nameberry entry on [name_m]Lenny[/name_m] says it is “saddled with negative connotations” but I have no idea what that’s referring to…
[name_u]Lanny[/name_u] is a good idea as well. Thanks!
My dad is called [name_m]Allan[/name_m] and is mostly called that. My little cousin calls him Uncle [name_m]Al[/name_m] but that about the only nickname he every gets. I think [name_u]Allie[/name_u] is pretty cute and I have only heard of boys called [name_u]Allie[/name_u] so it’s more masculine to me. An [name_m]Allan[/name_m] with any spelling could go by [name_m]Lenny[/name_m] or [name_u]Lanny[/name_u]. Also [name_m]Allan[/name_m] is such a lovely name which great meanings, [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]Rock[/name_m], Handsome and [name_f]Precious[/name_f]. I plan on using as a middle name one day.
I’m glad to hear [name_u]Allie[/name_u] is used for boys where you are. My husband liked [name_m]Lenny[/name_m]. I love the full name too but I know I will end up using a nn for our little one at least among family. Thanks for your help!
