Nicknames for Eliza?

What nickname would you give (or expect) for Eliza, if any? I know Eliza is already a shortened form of Elizabeth, but this is assuming Eliza is the given name. I do like Eliza a lot, but really really hate Liz/Lizzy. Do you think that’s inevitable or avoidable?

TIA!

I wouldn’t automatically use a nickname for an [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]! I’d probably use [name_f]Liza[/name_f] if I was to use anything

@sunflowerbelle [name_m]Hi[/name_m]! [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is one of my absolute favorite names! I hope to use it in the future as an honor name, so this is something I’ve put lots of thought into. As @Greyblue said, I don’t know that I would intuitively shorten [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to get a nickname. From your list, I’d go with with either [name_f]Liza[/name_f] (:heart_eyes:) or Eli/Ellie. I feel like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is much more unexpected as a nickname for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] than it is for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. (To be honest, as I write this, I am really starting to love it!) But I’m also a huge fan of nicknames based on personality.

I just think nicknames are so special. I personally have more than one nickname, and I love the fact that different people in my life have different nicknames for me. I also know that some people don’t care for them though, so I always try to ask and see what the preference is.

I hope this helps!

I would nickname an [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] “Elsie.” While I don’t think that’s necessarily the most intuitive nickname, I really like the name [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. Plus my brain goes from [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], to [name_f]Liza[/name_f], to [name_f]Liza[/name_f] Minnelli, to her role in the movie Cabaret, to the song “Cabaret” from the movie, which features a girl named [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] best friend since childhood is an [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]! Such a lovely name! In my experience, the only natural nicknames (and the only ones that she’s gotten) are [name_f]Liza[/name_f] and E. The rest that you have listed definitely could work if you wanted them to, but they aren’t very naturally occurring or inevitable in my opinion and experience, as you asked about Liz/Lizzy.

Eliza’s so sweet! tbh I very rarely default to a nn for anyone unless that precedence is already set for me. I would not call an [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] anything but [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] unless she asked me to call her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], or her mom referred to her as [name_f]Liz[/name_f], etc.

If I had an [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], I doubt I’d use a nn, but if I was pigeon-holed into one, it would be [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f]

I personally wouldn’t shorten [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], but what knocked it off my own list was the possibility others would, as I really dislike [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Liza[/name_f] would be the most likely diminutives if any. I don’t think [name_f]Liz[/name_f] / [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] is likely as the vowel sound is different - it makes sense for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as the vowel sound is the same.
