Hello! My Darling [name_m]Friend[/name_m] is about to give birth to her sixth living child and, almost certainly, her fifth Daughter! After battling to agree on names for their first five Girls, she and her Husband now only have ONE name that they agree on - [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! BUT they don’t like any of the traditional nicknames for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and if they can’t find a nickname that people will easily agree to use then they will also throw [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] out!! They kind of like the nicknames [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] (pronounced Eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-sah) and [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], but are worried that people may not comfortably use these as nicknames for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. What do you think, please, and do you know any lovely nicknames for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] that aren’t [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], etc?
I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Bess[/name_f], the latter is the name my twin sister goes by, she is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] formally though.
I also love the nickname Zizzy, which is my special name for my sister, only I’m allowed to call her that. In return, she gets to call me [name_f]Peg[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Betty[/name_f] the best. [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f] are also stylish.
To me, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is so much a name on its own. I never understood having a nickname that is itself 3 syllables for a 4 syllable given name. I am also a huge supporter of giving kids names that they will actually be called. If you like the nickname so much, chances are it’s a real name and you can just use that. If they agree on [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but now have to also agree on a nickname, what was the point of agreeing on [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] in the first place?
That being said, [name_f]Bizzy[/name_f] is my absolute favorite nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Aside from [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], which I don’t really consider a nickname. [name_f]Busy[/name_f] also works if you like that spelling better.
I’ve always liked [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] because of the variety of nicknames that are possible
I like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], but I see you wanted other nickname options besides what you mentioned…I HATE [name_f]Liz[/name_f] and [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f], but [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Betsy[/name_f].
I have a few friends that are Elizabeths that took different paths for nicknames.
[name_f]Bitsy[/name_f]
[name_m]Eli[/name_m] (as [name_m]ELI[/name_m] not [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].)
[name_f]Ethie[/name_f]
[name_m]Abe[/name_m]
[name_f]Ethie[/name_f] (soft E) is probably my favorite nickname, and it goes well for the friend that uses it.
Thank you SO much everyone for your FABULOUS suggestions!! My [name_m]Friend[/name_m] went into labour at 1am on the first of [name_u]December[/name_u] and, an hour and forty minutes later, a GORGEOUS [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Girl arrived! On seeing their new arrival my [name_m]Friend[/name_m]'s Husband, who is a [name_m]Pastor[/name_m], suddenly decided that he REALLY wanted to name her after three of the members of his previous Congregation who he really misses and who all happen to be called [name_f]Martha[/name_f]! So her name is [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! It actually suits her PERFECTLY!!
