Nicknames for Emerson? (boy)

I rather like the name [name]Emerson[/name] for a boy, but what about nicknames? I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Emmy[/name], but to me it too girly! With so many names crossing gender these days, does that make sense? To still like [name]Emerson[/name] for a boy but find [name]Emmy[/name] absolutely feminine?

I am aware of [name]Emery[/name], but I am not nuts about it.

Am I crazy?

It seems like the name of someone to be taken seriously…not the type to use a nickname.

I think what you said makes complete sense, and I agree that [name]Emerson[/name] is a good boy name, but [name]Emmy[/name] is definitely feminine. As rkrd said, you really don’t even need a nickname with [name]Emerson[/name], it is a great name all on its own.

I think [name]Emmy[/name] would be adorable on a little boy, actually. If you don’t like [name]Emmy[/name], I would call him [name]Emerson[/name] in full or use a nickname unrelated to his name.

I know a male [name]Emerson[/name], just turned 30. He pretty much exclusively goes by [name]Emerson[/name], but I have heard his mum call him Eme a couple times.

What about just using E as a nickname? I can’t think of any other way to shorten [name]Emerson[/name] that isn’t [name]Emmy[/name] and that whirligig hasn’t mentioned already.

I have always like [name]Sonny[/name] as a nickname for an [name]Emerson[/name] or anything else ending in -son but that has already been suggested.

Yep, [name]Emmy[/name] is very girly. I went to school with an [name]Emerson[/name] who went by [name]Emmo[/name]. That’s quite a cool nn

I love [name]Emerson[/name]! It’s such a cool name. Honestly, [name]Sonny[/name] seems really cheesy (but there is a regular where I work who goes by [name]Sonny[/name], and he’s a bit of a creeper, so that definitely affects how I see [name]Sonny[/name]!), and all the other options seem either really girly ([name]Emmy[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Emer[/name]–[name]Emer[/name] (EE-muhr) is an Irish girls’ name, I believe) or really unnecessary ([name]Emery[/name] takes just as much effort to say as [name]Emerson[/name] does!). If you’re really brave, I think you could get away with [name]Emerson[/name] nn [name]Emmy[/name], but since [name]Emerson[/name] skewers feminine in a lot of minds, anyway, I think [name]Emmy[/name] would seal the deal. :frowning: I would find something like [name]Emilio[/name] nn [name]Emmy[/name] or [name]Emmett[/name] nn [name]Emmy[/name] more usable, personally. Although I’ve come across the idea of [name]Alexander[/name] nn [name]Allie[/name], and I have to say, I think that’s pretty adorable. I’ve never really thought of [name]Emmy[/name] on a boy before–probably because I’ve loved [name]Emmeline[/name] nn [name]Emmy[/name] for a girl so long. I do like the idea of it, though!

Good luck!

My former colleague had a little boy named [name]Emerson[/name], and they nicknamed him [name]Emo[/name] (pronounced ee-moe). It was really cute on a little boy! As an older kid or teen, I think using the full name of [name]Emerson[/name] is fine.

[name]Emer[/name] or [name]Emi[/name] (eh-mee).

Now this really does sound crazy, but I like both [name]Emer[/name] and [name]Emi[/name]! And somehow changing the spelling makes it more a little boy’s name for me! I’ve never been with that idea (changing spelling changes connotation), but it is working for me here!

I am also liking [name]Emer[/name]. I think when it is an Irish girl’s name, it is pronounced differently – EE-mer instead of eh-mer or even m-er.

I went to school with an [name]Emerson[/name] who went by just [name]Em[/name] a lot. He’s my best friend’s guy best friend and she always called him [name]Emmy[/name] which is also what she calls me instead of [name]Emily[/name]. It got confusing a lot. But if you name your son [name]Emerson[/name] he’s bound to just be shortened to [name]Em[/name] in my experience.

I’d say go for it though, cause I like that name!

I like [name]Emmett[/name] a lot so I feel your pain!

I like E.J. or other initial nicknames but a lot of people despise them, especially on nameberry. I still think EJ sounds a lot more masculine than [name]Emmy[/name] though. [name]Em[/name] might make it to unisex. Maybe.

I’ve always liked the idea of [name]Sonny[/name] for any -son ending name. [name]Emmo[/name] would be my other option, the O ending makes it sound more masculine (like [name]Milo[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], etc) than [name]Emmy[/name] (the -ee ending is much more common for girls, [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Rosie[/name] etc)

[name]Sonny[/name] would get my vote.

Have you considered [name]Emrys[/name]? Being shorter it might feel less in need of a nickname, although I suppose it’s technically the same number of syllables. Well, 2-3 anyway. Nice meaning too. [name]Just[/name] a thought since you mentioned [name]Emery[/name].

[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Emerson[/name]. You can just call him E for short! That what I call my friend [name]Ian[/name] too!

I love the name [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] on a boy --and ONLY a boys. I hate it on girls. Sounds too masculine and forced.

I agree that it is one of those solid names that doesn’t need a nickname. If you insist on a nickname though, I think “E” is super cool.

Great name!!
