Nicknames for Georgina?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I’m not pregnant or anything but I was considering the name [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] for if I ever had a child. I think that [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] is a bit of a mouthful and, having a relatively long name myself, knowing that it was harder for me to spell when I was about 5 and learning to write, compared to people in my class such as [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]

So far I’ve heard: [name_f]Gia[/name_f], [name_u]George[/name_u], [name_u]Georgie[/name_u], [name_f]Gina[/name_f], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]. I’ve also heard [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_u]Genie[/name_u], but I’m not sure whether that’s a stretch or not.

I love both the names [name_u]Genie[/name_u] and [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] but am worried about if its too much of a stretch. If it isn’t seen as too much of a stretch, which one out of the two do you prefer? I like them equally and can’t decide at all! :slightly_frowning_face:

Obviously if I did have a child, I’d let them choose but I just wanted to see what people on here thought about the two nicknames?

I think [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_u]Genie[/name_u] totally work! I was going to suggest them myself (: I don’t think they’re a stretch at all, especially [name_u]Genie[/name_u]. They might not be the first nn people think of but I think they make sense and I don’t think anyone would question it

I think anything Gi- works for such a long name.
Personally, I like the sound of [name_u]Genie[/name_u] more but prefer the look of [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]. I do think if you’re part of the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] generation, many people may ask if she’s [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] like/after [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] Weasley, though.

[name_f]Gina[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_u]George[/name_u]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f]

[name_f]Ginny[/name_f] works for sure! If anyone asks, then just say this

“So is [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] short for [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] or a stand-alone name?”
“It’s actually short for Georgina!”
“Really? How do you get [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] from Georgina?”
“It’s from the -gina ending and since [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] is a pretty long name, I like to be called Ginny!”
“That’s cool!”

I definitely don’t think [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] is too much of a stretch and it’s going to be a name ready for a comeback in 2021!

I love [name_u]Genie[/name_u] as a nn for [name_f]Georgina[/name_f]! There’s the further shortening of [name_u]Gene[/name_u] (could be spelt Jean) as well.

I don’t think either [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] or [name_u]Genie[/name_u] is a stretch, although it’s one of those situations where you may have that nickname at home, but their friends may naturally gravitate to a more obvious, or just alternative nickname. Are you ok for her to be [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] at school? E.g. I’m a [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and my family always called me Fliss. But my friends all know me as [name_f]Flick[/name_f], and my OH and his family all call me [name_u]Fee[/name_u] (or [name_u]Fee[/name_u] [name_u]Fee[/name_u] in the case of my partner).

I guess I’m saying, you can’t choose their nicknames completely, their nicknames will find them!

[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] is sweet! I think [name_u]Genie[/name_u] and [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] are pretty intuitive  I personally prefer [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]

When I was in school, I remember being in classes with many people with longer names and it’s surprising how quickly they learn how to spell them, I’ve a [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], a [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], a [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], a [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and my I have two daughter who have longer names, [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] & [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is 8 and I remember her writing her name at about 3. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is almost 3 and is close to being able to write it out. Having a long name can come with those challenges but it can also be difficult to write on forms :frowning:

As for nns, for [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] I like [name_u]Georgie[/name_u], [name_f]Gina[/name_f] & [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] but [name_u]Genie[/name_u] could definitely work as well. I think you can have any nickname you want as long as you make sure people are aware. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] goes by [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] which I was told was a stretch but it’s not as long as people know what it stands for.

I adore [name_f]Georgina[/name_f]! [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] is my favorite but [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] is really cute too and definitely works!
