Nicknames for John?

We are expecting DC #3 in [name_f]April[/name_f]. We do not know the gender. We have 2 girls, [name_f]Camille[/name_f] and [name_f]Serena[/name_f].

[name_m]John[/name_m] is a family name (also my husband’s name) and we are considering using it. We don’t want to Johns though so we are considering nicknames beyond [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

Does [name_u]Jay[/name_u] work as a nickname for [name_m]John[/name_m]? What do you think of initial nicknames (combining first and middle, like JD, [name_m]JR[/name_m], JT)?

Thank you! This is my first post on nameberry. With our last DD,we didn’t have a name until 5 minutes before discharge. I would like to have more clarity this time!

[name_f]My[/name_f] dad is a [name_m]John[/name_m] who goes by his nn [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] all the time.

[name_u]Jay[/name_u] or JD/[name_m]JR[/name_m]/etc works great. I also like [name_m]Johnny[/name_m]. Maybe Jackin if you’re feeling medieval?

I love the nn [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] - probably because it reminds me of [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] Swayze in Dirty Dancing.

But if [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] isn’t your style I think: First and Middle Initials work, [name_u]Jay[/name_u] would be fine (though I would assume a name like [name_m]Jason[/name_m] or the like as a full name), [name_u]Jo[/name_u] (though I’d probably assume [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]), I also think JJ would work (as in [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Junior[/name_m] so you don’t get the awful [name_m]Junior[/name_m] nn.)

Have you considered a [name_m]John[/name_m] variation to avoid having “another” [name_m]John[/name_m] in the house? Something like [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], [name_m]Giovanni[/name_m], [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], [name_m]Johannes[/name_m], [name_u]Evan[/name_u], [name_u]Jan[/name_u], etc. (Behindthenames.com has a really nice list of names under it’s [name_m]John[/name_m] page).

No mention of sweet little [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m]!!

[name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_u]Joey[/name_u], [name_m]Joe[/name_m], [name_u]JoJo[/name_u], [name_u]Jay[/name_u], all work well.
