My husband and I are strongly leaning towards using [name]Lawrence[/name] if this baby is a boy. We both love the name! The main reason we are tentative about it is that when I have mentioned the name here people always say they don’t like the fact there are no “natural nicknames”. It doesn’t bother me really, more my husband.
Our daughters are [name]Elizabeth[/name] NN Miss E ([name]Missy[/name]) and [name]Annabelle[/name] NN [name]Belle[/name] we let their nicknames develop naturally after they were born and ended up totally different nicknames to what I would have thought!!
So suggestions of nicknames for [name]Lawrence[/name]?
Well I’m not sure how natural they are (they seem it to me) but my father goes by [name]Larry[/name] and a teacher I knew in high school went by [name]Lars[/name].
What about [name]Ren[/name]/[name]Wren[/name]?
or [name]Law[/name]? I know a boy named [name]Lawson[/name] whose nn is [name]Law[/name]
or [name]Lance[/name]? take out the -wre- and that’s what you’ve got. I think that’s my favorite.
I think [name]Larry[/name] is workable but my husband strongly dislikes it. [name]Lars[/name] seems like a NN thy could naturally develop too
I like [name]Lance[/name]! I never even thought of that, perfectly useable for as child and an adult. Have to talk to my husband about that one!!!
My husband has mentioned [name]Law[/name] before but I feel unsure about it, probably because my sister works in a court house.
So many good ideas! Definitely not a shortage of options! I love [name]Lance[/name] and [name]Ren[/name], my husband loves [name]Law[/name] but we still have a while to work it out Thank you all for your ideas!!!
I’ve also seen [name]Lawson[/name] as a nickname for [name]Lawrence[/name], but [name]Larry[/name] and Laz seem to be the ones I’ve seen the most often.
I don’t think it’s a British thing. It’s just that [name]Lori[/name] is quite a popular female name (I know several). Also, [name]Laura[/name]/[name]Lauren[/name]/[name]Lorraine[/name]/[name]Lorena[/name], etc are popular female names (all with possible nn [name]Lori[/name]/[name]Laurie[/name]) while [name]Lawrence[/name] is not very common and sounds a tad dated. I’ve never met a man who went by [name]Laurie[/name], most go by [name]Larry[/name]. At least all those I’ve met.
I remember reading [name]Little[/name] Women as a kid and think it was hilarious that the boy went by a girl name ([name]Laurie[/name]) and the girl went by a boy name ([name]Jo[/name]).
Renrose, [name]Laurie[/name] isn’t only a British thing, just for us it’s not an option as we know a girl named [name]Lorinda[/name] who goes by [name]Lorri[/name]
Thanks for all the ideas everyone! Definitely not a shortage of options like so many people have told us. I still love [name]Lance[/name] and my husband loves [name]Law[/name], I guess we will wait and see!!! Thanks again
[name]Laurie[/name] is most natural to me, probably because of [name]Little[/name] Women. [name]Love[/name] the idea of [name]Wren[/name], and I think it’s usable as an adult name as well.
I don’t like Laz or Lazzer, sounds very bogan I me (no sure if anyone other than an Australian will understand that term though!!!)
I like [name]Lewis[/name] but my sister’s best friend’s name is [name]Lewis[/name]. [name]Lance[/name] or [name]Ren[/name] are definitely still my favourites though
Thanks again for all the suggestions!
