Nicknames for Leighton

Hey guys, so as a new mom, I’ve searched and searched for names that my husband and I both like, but he’s super picky he likes basic names like Noah and Andre while I like “unique names” like Malakai, River etc. I finally got him to like one name which was Leighton but the thing is we are having a boy and Leighton spelled that way is more common for girls and I don’t really like it spelled “Layton” which is more common for boys so I need you guys to help me find a nickname for Leighton Brooks!! (My husband was thinking of nae nae as a nickname, but I’m not so sure if I like it or not)

update: my husband thought of making his nickname lays chips😭

maybe Leigh (prn. Lay) or Lee?

I think Leigh and Lee are pretty much the only option for Leighton, unless you want to go for Tony which feels pretty middle-aged to me.
I know you didn’t ask for suggestions, but just in case, here are some names that sound like Leighton but have more nicknames. Maybe your husband will like them!
Lachlan or Lochlan, nickname Loch/Lok/Loki
Lennon nickname Len or Lenny
Luca nickname Luke or Lou or Louie
Leon nickname Lee
Clayton nickname Clay
Deacon nickname Dean
Desmond nickname Des
Harrison nickname Harris, Harry, Sonny, Hal
Simon nickname Cy/Si
And just as a bonus, I think you might like Spencer, Kieran, Kai, Jasper, Joel, Jude, Finn, Franklin, Elliot, Emmett, Everett, Cyrus, Callum, Calvin, Bennett and Ronan

Elbie as suggested on the other thread

I’ve met Leighton’s with spellings

[name_u]Layton[/name_u]
[name_m]Leyton[/name_m]
Leiton

The most common being [name_u]Layton[/name_u]

I actually think lays chips is a cute nickname! Not for 24/7 use obviously but I love when people have nicknames like that (like I call my girlfriend named [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] [name_f]Shanny[/name_f] Banany, or the girl I nanny named [name_f]Ella[/name_f] goes by [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Belly, etc)

[name_u]Leighton[/name_u] is a great name! Id suggest the nn [name_u]Leith[/name_u].

If it makes you feel any better, the only [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] I know is a man who spells it that way. He doesn’t use a nn.

I was going to suggest [name_f]Leia[/name_f] and then read that it’s for a boy :woman_facepalming:t2:

Eight
Lit
Elton/ L-ton
Tonks

[name_u]Leighton[/name_u] [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] nn…
Rooks or Rookie (basically [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] without the B)
[name_u]Leo[/name_u]

I thought of “labor.” Haha! [name_u]Or[/name_u] Late!

As a new mom myself I think nicknames just come randomly and dont have to be name related. We call my son [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] “bug” or “Buck” all the time and clearly those have nothing to do with his actual name. They just kinda came up somehow and stuck.

I think its amazing you found a name you both like and you are clearly excited about it because you’re even been discussing and joking around about nicknames.

[name_u]Leighton[/name_u] is really cool. I really like it! I think [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] was originally spelled this way for boys. It wasn’t a girl name to start with so I think you are fine spelling it [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] on a boy. I would also choose that spelling over [name_u]Layton[/name_u] as well.
