I’m looking for nicknames for [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] that aren’t [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] (or [name_f]Addy[/name_f]). [name_f]My[/name_f] original one was [name_f]Lena[/name_f] ([name_m]Len[/name_m]-uh), but it’s too un-intuitive for me. I’ve thought of [name_f]Delly[/name_f], but that sounds too much like the word deli. [name_f]Della[/name_f] just doesn’t click for me. I found Liddy, traditionally a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but at this point in time, [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]'s hypothetical sibset would include an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and that’s a little too confusing for me. I’m open to any suggestions, but would prefer it ending in the -y/-ie/-i sound.
Edit: Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I decided on Madeleine Estelle “Nelly,” even though it’s a bit of a stretch it comes more naturally to me than others.
Without looking at other suggestions, so forgive all the many repeats:
I think [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], or [name_f]Adele[/name_f]/Adela/Adelie are cute and possible. I think Liddy could potentially work, too. [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_u]Lenny[/name_u], [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], or [name_f]Lynzy[/name_f] are possible depending on how you pronounce it. I also like [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], or other semi-related nicknames because the Victorian era has got me thinking that way. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], or [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] would be a stretch but possible.
Liddy is a good idea, the connection to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] isn’t intuitive so I assume the confusion would go away when it actually comes down to using the names and nicknames?
What about [name_f]Leni[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f]? If I went for [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], I would use one of those, or use an “E” middle and opt for [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]. You could do something like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Mireille[/name_f] and opt for “[name_f]Mimi[/name_f]” too?
