Nicknames for Solomon beyond Solly

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] has still been lingering around the top of our potentials for our second son. I know it isn’t everyone’s taste, but tonight I was FaceTiming my mom when she mentioned the name. [name_f]My[/name_f] dad, who was notably drunk, went on a very dramatic rant about how horrible the name was, no one is going to call the child that name, he refuses to use the name- like, my mother and I were having a completely separate conversation and we couldn’t even finish talking because he continued ranting on about much he despises the name.

I still love the name and a drunken rant from an alcoholic isn’t enough to stop me from using it. But the degree of hatred he had for the name really took the wind out of my sails. It’s also why I haven’t been sharing potential names with family very much, because I don’t want them to rain on our parade. Anyway, one of my dad’s issues with the name is that it’s apparently too long to actually call the child by that (I disagree), but all of the nicknames I rattled off for [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] were also spat upon.

I’m just going to try to block out the unnecessary negativity from him, but I am interested to hear nicknames for [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] that I might be overlooking, as my husband has also said that he doesn’t love the obvious nickname [name_m]Solly[/name_m].

I wouldn’t have used [name_m]Solly[/name_m] for a [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]! [name_u]Sol[/name_u] would be my instinctual choice. [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] / [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] works too, as well as some more unexpected ones like [name_u]Mo[/name_u] or [name_m]Simmy[/name_m].

[name_u]Sol[/name_u], [name_u]Solo[/name_u], [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], [name_f]Lo[/name_f], [name_u]Mo[/name_u] / [name_u]Moe[/name_u]

I’m so sorry he said that. It was out of line. Besides, [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is only three syllables, which is not a lot at all.

One of my friends had a son very young for our social group (ie in his early 20s) and he and his then girlfriend /the mother called their child, [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]. I didn’t like the name - or was confused by the name as I could only associate it with intense, big man imagery from biblical times. Much time has passed since my friend named his son (or his then GF did) and I now like the name! It still has a kingly feel as if it’s being heralded but it also feels gentle, playful and handsome to me now. It’s a strong choice! You have great nn suggestions, just to send some support with the name - and hope you’re doing OK after the blast.

I know two little Solomons and I love the name! If we didn’t already have a son named [name_m]Simeon[/name_m], I’d still have [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] on my list.

Repeating a few of the suggestions above:
[name_u]Lonny[/name_u]
[name_u]Solo[/name_u]
[name_u]Mo[/name_u]
Sim/Simmy
[name_u]Sonny[/name_u]

And depending on his middle name, you could have more options, like [name_u]Monty[/name_u].

Not his choice and, while I think it is good for well-meaning friends/family to express concern about a name, it ought to be done so in a kind and respectful way. I am sorry he acted like than and wilted your inward spirit a bit regarding the name. It is an ancient name that has been used over and over.

I might do [name_u]Solo[/name_u] as it’s easy and popular. Others: [name_u]Mo[/name_u], [name_f]Monnie[/name_f], [name_u]Sol[/name_u].

I understand what you’re going thru. We kept our daughter’s name a secret until birth because of my grandmother. If you and your husband love the name, use it! I’d call him [name_u]Sol[/name_u].

I absolutely adore [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]!

He’s so handsome, classic, strong, tranquil and outdoorsy. I know a few Solomon’s the one that really comes to mind is a little boy at my daughter’s toddler group. He’s known as [name_m]Solly[/name_m] and is adorable. His father is Nigerian and his mother Italian they loved him as they felt he had a really multicultural feel to him which is definitely part of the appeal. Me & my partner have [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] very high up on the list.

The nickname I love is [name_u]Sol[/name_u] he’s just so outdoorsy and bright

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is a beautiful name. If I was [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] or had a son with the name, I would use the nickname “Mo.”

I’m sorry your father made those comments. I know a [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] who gets lots of compliments about his name. I love that it feels like a royal name because of the religious figure [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], means “peace,” and has a gentle, yet strong sound.

I personally don’t like the name, but it’s because of my religious trauma and a friend of my dads named their goat [name_m]Solomon[/name_m].

as a nickname I would so with [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] or [name_u]Mo[/name_u]
