Nicknames for Tamsin

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],

I’m looking for girly nicknames for the name [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]. I really don’t like [name_f]Tammy[/name_f]/[name_f]Tammi[/name_f] so I’d like to control it from the beginning. I would like something feminine. I’ve played around with the letters and sort of like Sini (Finnish) but I’m not crazy about it either.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I probably wouldn’t use a nickname with [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], but if I did, maybe [name_f]Ina[/name_f] or [name_f]Sina[/name_f]. Sini is cute too.

[name_f]Tara[/name_f], [name_f]Taryn[/name_f], [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], Sini,

Thanks, I have googled the correct pronunciation of Sini and it is ‘Sigh Nigh’ and I don’t really like it. I think I thought it was ‘See Nee’. Oh dear, I’m not having much luck. I’d like to try and control the nickname if possible.

I’m wondering whether to change from [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] altogether now? I like it as its known but not commonly used and i’m finding it so hard to think of names.

What do you think of when you hear the name?

I’d really like a feminine nickname!

Maybe Taz/Tazzie?

Other ideas that are probably a stretch…
[name_f]Amy[/name_f]
[name_f]Sissy[/name_f]
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]

Best I could come up with. I don’t think that [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] is a name I would automatically feel the need to nickname, personally. You could still use Sini and pronounce it the way you like, it’s a nickname after all.

You could probably get away with useing [name_f]Tess[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]. I also really like the above suggustion of Taz

Sini is pronounced see nee, not sigh nigh. If you know international phonetic alphabet it’s really easy to pronounce finnish, because 99% of the time everything is pronounced exactly like it’s written.

I really like [name_f]Tess[/name_f] (it was on my list). That is interesting that Sini is seenee. I keep saying it over in my head and it sounds quite nasally. Is this the case? Is it considered a nice name? What name is is comparable with/in the same vein as in English?

What is the general consensus on the name [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] itself?

[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] is itself is a sort of nickname or short form of [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f]/[name_f]Thomasine[/name_f] so maybe that’s why you are having a hard time?Tamsy? [name_f]Missy[/name_f]? Tims? I know a little [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] who goes by Tinks in her family.

[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] is quite nice. It feels very fresh and sophisticated. This may be a stretch, but if you rearrange the letters a bit, [name_f]Tia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sia[/name_f] could work for nicknames. Otherwise, since [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] is a form of [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f], you could do [name_f]Tommi[/name_f], or [name_f]Sina[/name_f] for nicknames, as well.

I’ve never considered [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] a name to be shortened but I’d want to avoid [name_f]Tammy[/name_f], as well.

Perhaps Sinna (as in [name_m]Cinna[/name_m])?

I don’t think a nickname for [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] is needed, but I do understand you addressing it from the beginning. If you don’t lock up [name_f]Tammy[/name_f] fast chances are someone will call her that and it might stick. My suggestion for a nickname is Tamsy. I think you can totally use [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], but address the nickname from the beginning. If anyone calls her [name_f]Tammy[/name_f] correct them and say “No, just [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f].” I have a friend name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] who is just [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. Not [name_f]Katie[/name_f], not [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], not [name_f]Kat[/name_f], and not [name_u]Kit[/name_u], just [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. She corrects everyone who calls her by a nickname and says “No, just [name_f]Katherine[/name_f].”

I think I’m trying to prepare for the inevitable - [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]? Is she called [name_f]Tammy[/name_f] because it is AMAZING how many people seem to have never heard or come across the name. While I know it isn’t commonly used, I’d never have thought it was unusual.

I would feel rude saying ‘No her name is [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]’ so thought it might be easier to have a backup nickname prepared. I’m not crazy about Tamsy as I wanted to avoid any nickname beginning with ‘[name_m]Tam[/name_m]’ which I think sounds masculine.

I’m not sure if that makes sense.

Sini does sound a bit nasal, but both of the vowels are pronounced short (like the ‘i’ in ‘it’) so it’s not too nasal. In Finland it is a nice name, not overly common but still very familiar and usable. It comes from the Finnish word for blue (sininen). As for the name [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], I love it. It’s on the short list of my favorite girls’ names.

Oh no, please don’t feel rude telling people that the name they’ve decided to call your daughter isn’t actually her name. You’re the one choosing the name, not other people!

I’ve known a couple of Tamsins, both of whom go by just that and no nickname. One actually gets really annoyed if people try to give her a nickname as she finds it very rude. If you like the name as it is, don’t be afraid to stick to it.

I’d like to avoid the nickname route but the name lends itself to being cut off after [name_m]Tam[/name_m]. I think it is so masculine, Tams is cuter perhaps. Both take from what I consider to be an elegant name.

I tried so hard to veer clear of the [name_f]Ava[/name_f]/[name_f]Millie[/name_f] etc ( pretty names) to come to the realisation that I quite like pretty names.

I think [name_m]Tin[/name_m] [name_m]Tin[/name_m] would be an adorable name for a [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]. Or just [name_m]Tin[/name_m] or Tinny. If you’re still looking. I think [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] is a great name that’s underused and I would love to hear of a little [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] rather than hear of one more [name_f]Ava[/name_f]!

I don’t think it needs a nickname, and I think if you use her full name so will most people. The only people who use a NN for my daughter are family, and we told them we didn’t mind.

[name_m]Tin[/name_m] [name_m]Tin[/name_m] is cute but would she need a dog named Snowy?

I think a nickname is inevitable and I’m determined it won’t be [name_f]Tammy[/name_f]!
